Guest guest
Hi, my name is Sharon and my 6yr old son has Aspergers as well. He was diagnosed on November 18, 2003, but we had the emotional and Intellectual testing done last november due to an ADHD and possible ODD diagnosis previously. We are having the tests done again though. Feel free to email me anytime. Sharon > Hi everyone! Guest guest
welcome to the group Alissa! I think most of us have had our children have these tests at one point. Are there any specific questions you have? DES
Guest guest
First off Alissa.. welcome to a whole GROUP of ppl who feel the same 'pain' watching their children struggle. I would say to some extent we're all a tad bit defensive when it comes to our kiddos. Its part of the 'parent' thing I suppose. First off.. I'm no PRO on the testing stuff. Just a veteran mom who's been down a few alleys. LOL Who is doing the testing? The school or private? If you are having the testing done at school; which tests are being done. In order to be eligible for Special Education; certain criteria must be met. There's where the testing comes in. The tests they do should show the child's strenghts and weaknesses but should be all inclusive of the childs developmental background, medical history etc as well. Then recommendations based on all this information should lead the team in specific recommendations for the classroom or educational placement. The Intelligence test will give them an idea of the current educational performance levels. but... it doesn't help in measuring the other executive functions ( problem solving, attention, organizational skills etc). Additional test should be included for these. Also if she has Aspergers; she will probably get the CARS. Make sure you give them the TEST results that led to your DX of Aspergers! if you don't agree with the testing results....you do have the right to ask for an INDEPENDENT EVALUATION conducted at their expense. These results have to be 'considered' as well then. yea.. long winded I know. Wait till you 'hear' me after the second cup of coffee DES
Guest guest
I am a 27 year old dysfunctional asperger syndrome diagnosed male who lives in Bedfordshire, UK. I am studying to be an accountant / bookkeeper. I hope no one minds, but if there are members in the UK on this group - maybe they would like to consider joining my group " aspiesforservices " . The aim of the group is for people on the spectrum and people connected with them to support each other, and perhaps eventually try to lobby and / or improve the practically non-existant services for people like ourselves in the UK. I hope that you are all well Best Wishes Neil Burrows
