I believe that they sometimes increase the IVIG dosage if a child is sick

enough to be running a temp, so I'm pretty sure that they would not want to

postpone it.

I've listened to 's lungs for 3 years now and to Christi's since she

had RSV early last spring and still wouldn't know how to accurately

describe what to listen for. Sometimes when he has an URI it sounds like

paper rattling, sometimes like a door creaking, sometimes I can't hear much

of anything unusual sounding, but know there's a problem because I don't

hear the normal amount of air being drawn in. One thing to be aware of is

that sometimes the congestion is actually pretty high, even as high as the

nasal passages and it will echo down and both sound and feel like it's

rattling in the lungs and/or bronchial area. I clear Christi's nose out

before I listen to her chest.

I don't know how much you have used a stethoscope, but one of the ways I

learned to tell the difference was to listen to my oldest daughter

(habitually very healthy) or husband to hear what lungs sound like when

they are healthy. Once you know what a clear airway sounds like, it's

easier to tell when there is a problem. I'm still no expert and if I have

any doubts at all about what I'm hearing I take them in to the doctor.

Luckily my kids adore our family doctor, so it is never a problem to get

them to go. I've even suspected them of exaggerating their symptoms so

that they could go to see him. Especially when they ask like this, " Am I

going to get to go see Dr. Citty? "

I find out tomorrow what the results are to the throat culture we did on

Christi last Thursday. She may have allergies since she seems to have a

constantly stuffy or runny nose that looks clear instead of infected. We

are suspecting that the drainage is causing her to cough. I think I'd

rather it be a virus, since those will go away at some point and allergies

could be a real long term problem. Oh well. We'll find out soon enough.

At least she seems to be in good health otherwise.

God bless,
