Guest guest
Has anyone tried biofeedback for their child for OCD? What were your results? Are there any OCD/BF studies that anyone could point me too? thanks
Guest guest
We did biofeedback and I didn't see any difference....We actually even went to 2 different people, went for quite a while and didn't see any difference. So it didn't work for us. Robin > > Has anyone tried biofeedback for their child for OCD? What were your results? Guest guest
Do you remember how many sessions you went in total with each therapist? How often (weekly, monthly ,etc? ________________________________ To: Sent: Sunday, April 12, 2009 8:24:28 PM Subject: Re: Biofeedback We did biofeedback and I didn't see any difference.. ..We actually even went to 2 different people, went for quite a while and didn't see any difference. Guest guest
Our 11yr old daughter -- OCD / Tourette's -- has been undergoing neurofeedback / biofeedback therapy for the last 18 months. Subjectively, she finds it very relaxing and goes to these weekly sessions eagerly. From our observation, the treatment has dramatically improved all aspects of her sleep routine and (we believe) contributed to a significant easing in Tourette's symptoms and overall mood. It is less clear what impact, if any, the neurofeedback has had on the OCD, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to tease out the effects of this therapy from the meds. Nonetheless, the evidence appears to support the conclusion -- in our daughter's case -- that the neurofeedback has yielded substantial benefits for tics. Wish I could offer something more definitive on the OCD. We continue to pursue this in the hopes that it will. The theory suggests the potential is there...with the neurofeedback working to strengthen the pre-frontal cortex and, therefore, the child's ability to inhibit both involuntary muscular / vocal activity and involuntary / obsessive thoughts. One article is entitled, " Improve Mental Health with Neurofeedback " in the March 2009 issue of ODE Magazine (www.odemagazine.com) by Blaine Greteman of Oklahoma State University. Some very useful information at: http://bio-medical.com/news.cfm?mode=eeg and http://www.aapb.org/ Regards, Chris
