Hello, another quick question..this morning I tried the Advance for the 2nd

time..My question is..what is the benefit of doing the moves double x versus

1/2 time..is it building up the heartrate, more reps? When I was doing the

advance on the move where you pretend a rope is extended from your arm to

your leg and you " pull " up, they went into double time and I chose to stay at

half time cuz I realized if I did double I wouldn't be doing the movement

right at this point..I just wanted to know the benefits of double time..or am

I getting the same doing 1/2...If this makes any sense..

actually most doubletimes don't make sense to me

and probably are there to increase the heartrate quickly

for the younger folk at the top of the fitness scale

cuz you can easily increase reps by walking it out less

I do know my own heartrate goes up way too fast with doubletimes

Personally, I enjoy halftime more anyways and am less likely to injure

anything and can feel my muscles working even better at halftime with full

range of motion and concentration just as weight lifters are told not to rush

their lift, jerking or swinging the weights

Barb

who believes developed Tae-Bo for his own work-out routine so it was a

work-out for folks who were already very fit when it first started and may

not have any solid scientific grounds for the doubletimes, except for

self-defense

Heck, I can't even do it single time! LOL. I always have to do regular

roundhouse kicks. I think for me that will be the move that takes the most

practice. That's what's great about Tae bo....always something to work on.

who also has a hard time with the floor ab work....especially sit and reach

,

I agree w/ you..I am thinking its ok to do 1/2 time w/ the advance for

now..I'm more concerned w/ doing it right and still geting a good workout w/o

killing myself..Its funny tho, after doing the advance and then the basic,

the basic feels like slow motion..whereas when I first started the basic I

thought I would die...Isn't that funny...Ok, I'm probably just amusing

myself....

Kathy, I think the benefit from double times is just cardiovascular

from doing the move faster. The move you are describing, called a

swivel kick, is VERY difficult to do double time. I couldn't do it

double time until about my 10 month of doing taebo! Even now, it

isn't pretty. Be easy on yourself. It is very easy to lose your

form (lifting your knee first before kicking) on that move when you

do it too quickly and, if you lose your form, you can really hurt

your hip. I would stick to 1/2 time for a long while on that one.

Kathy,

I think the only advantage to the double time moves is that you can

get your heartrate up and maybe get more of a cardiovascular

workout. However, you can also get the same effect by really

focusing and putting full intensity into the moves at a slower

speed. Like Barb said, is incredibly fit, as are all of his

instructors and the people who work out at his gym every week. They

have already mastered the moves at half time and it's more of a

challenge for them. But, it takes a long time to work up to that

stage where you can do the double times moves correctly, while

maintaining proper form and also to where you have mastered the moves

in half time and want to challenge yourself a little by doing the

moves more quickly. It took me forever to be able to do the move you

are talking about in double time and to be honest, there are still

days when I can't keep up with them on the tape. So, don't feel like

you aren't getting a good workout by doing the moves slowly. One of

the things I love about the basic workouts is that I can really

concentrate on the moves and I can put more intensity into the

workout cause the pace is slower. At the end, I am still sweating up

a storm and breathing heavy, so I know I am still getting a great

workout!

Kathy and Im guessing here, if you do double time you will burn more calories

or what ever you burn but I think it is more important for right form or you

wont do anything but mabey hurt yourself
