That's a great attitude Dave! Congratulations on your first workout! You will

see yourself continue to improve with each workout! I know that in the

beginning the moves may feel a bit awkward, especially if you are doing a

move differently that you originally learned it, but you will get the hang of

it! Keep up the great work!

Dave,

Alright on completing your 1st workout..I can just imagine cuz when I think

back to my first day..well, lets just say I was glad no one could see me..I

hear ya on favoring one side..It always hurts more to lift my left leg and

the left side is a little more awkward for me but I manage..What did you

think about the back kicks (double time)..if you have the same basic as I

do..anyway, I agree w/ everyone, the form and speed etc. will improve..some

days when my legs are tired I still have to hold onto something to complete

the roundhouse kicks at double time..otherwise, I'm sure I'll kiss the ground

I'm kicking on if you know what I mean!!! Just remember, keep coming here

for your encouragement cuz we all need it...

Also, for anyone who has done the Advance (the one that came in the pack w/

basic and instructional)..any words of advice on how to modify on that one..I

cant do that russian kick thing where you squat low and then kick..and some

other moves are a little too advance for me at this point, I've only done

that tape once and whew..back to the basics!!!!

Good day everyone and now I must depart and get kickin before my work day

begins...waah waah, I wanna go back to bed...Go ahead say it..JUST PUSH

PLAY!!!!

Great day to all,

Kathy

whos having a hard time getting her booty upstairs and get movin..but she

will..

that's the spirit !!!!

just keep it as much fun as possible even if it means skipping a move that is

too tough and may cuz injury

be very careful about going too low and too fast that your knees don't extend

forward past your foot. It is a very controlled squat using your thighs and

butt. Concentrate on only going down low enough to comfort (butt out like

sitting on a chair) then bring up one knee like it is attached to your belly

by a short cord while shifting your weight to the other standing leg.

Do these squat kicks very slow till you get the hang of them

you may just want to practice the squat isolated at halftime the first few

times you try these

trust me, the squat alone will bring muscular soreness the next day and is an

excellent weight bearing exercise

Barb

who found this strangely an easier move to do than most

Thanks for the info Barb..I know you are big on modifications so any you can

add along the line are welcome...I want to mod. until I completely get the

form down then I will do it full throttle...Kathy

So glad you enjoyed your workout.

I feel that the punching is a real 'groove' and positively flows on a

good day.

Don't worry about going high with the kicks, just concentrate on the

form, even kicking at ankle height is fine - it will improve over

time, and even then on different days it will wary a lot if you're

anything like me. The other thing is don't try to go at the same rep

rate - slow it down, you can do half-time reps instead of single,

single time instead of double etc... that REALLY helps with form and

also can make you feel it even more.

Being trained as a boxer for nearly ten years was actually something

of a hindrance I found, my physiology is not accustomed to throwing

the punches in the manner that demonstrates them and I found it

difficult to get the groove on that one. Obviously throwing the

punches across the center line of the body allows for maximum stretch

of the abs and spinal erector muscles of the lower back, as well as

the lats and the delts, but I am accustomed to throwing for power or

speed and aiming directly at a target which would normally be infront

of you, so it did feel pretty weird.

found it isn't.....lol. My version of it was to lift my leg and fall

over backwards, and yes, this was with a chair...........lol. I

suspect I was trying to get my thigh too high and I dont have the

neccessary feel for the balance. I also found that I have a tendency

to favour one side, I know we all do but I didn't realise how much

and the temptation is to work on your better side and neglect the

weaker one, which of course is the WRONG thing to do.

The advanced studio tape is hard for everyone (even after 1 1/2 years, it's a

good workout for me). You can modify by starting out just doing the cardio

portion of the tape and stopping when you get to the floor work OR you can

just do the floor work and add it to the basic tape. Only in the past year

have I been able to do the machine gun and swivel kicks up to speed. Before

then, I just did them as fast as I could (approximately half time). For the

squat kicks (what you called the " Russian kicks " ), make sure you go low

enough and stick your butt backwards as if you were sitting down (don't let

your knees go over your feet). That position gives you momentum. Of course,

if they hurt your knees even with the correct position, don't go down that

far or don't do them at all and substitute regular front kicks. The more I

think about it, the studio advanced has tons of challenging moves.

Congratulations for tackling it.

Dave, you have a great attitude towards learning new things. You already

figured out why has us punch differently from boxing and that you need

to lower your thigh on kicks in the beginning. Way to go on getting through

the first workout. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Dave,

Way to go on completing your first Tae-Bo workout! Woo Hoo!!!!! I

guess it would be kind of strange to throw the punches in the manner

demonstrates, especially since you are so trained to throw

punches at an actual target! It will definitely take some

concentration on your part to shift that focus! Hang in there with

the kicks! Balance comes with time! Just start off slow and keep

the kicks low and as you become more familiar with the workout, you

will find your balance improving! That's one of the best ways to

tell you are improving! One day you will do the workout and when you

finish you will realize that you were able to hold your balance for

the whole set of kicks! It's an awesome feeling :) I have really

enjoyed your messages these past few days! You have really made me

smile with your comments. I love the attitude you have and the way

you are approaching this workout! You are right....at the end of the

day you had fun, and that IS what matters most :)
