Guest guest
The eggs, chocolate and dairy products as Natasha mentions are all high in amines. No fenol actually tags amines and removes a carbohydrate group from them so they can be processed.I will find the list of 'safe foods' and reply over the weekend. It was as per Prince Alfred Elimination diet in Australia (which is the core of FAILSAFE) - they are the worlds leading allergy unit. I have their book - friendly foods which ranks foods in relation to chemical content. BWAlison Alison, this is very interesting as my other son (AS) who is doing well on NP has started getting occasional very red face (used to get the red ears years ago). I give him trienza and every alternate dose some no fenol with it depending on foods.....This red face thing would coincide with NP but as it has been so occasional has been hard to track down..could it be be when he does not get the extra no fenol? I will makes sure he always has the extra no fenol with NP and see how that goes.I would be very interested to know what the 10 foods were that your son did OK on ? My NT does not use enzymes...though he should really. I hope this is the reason why he is having these headaches but he did stop the NP on Monday and is still having the headaches (more than 5 a day). Things were going so well here, now I am sick with worry. Dr Goyal has recommended neuroprotek for my 3 yr old son. When I looked at it I decided against it as it is high in flavornoids. If there is a sulphation problem according to Rosemary Waring's research flavornoids supress SULT1 and SULT2 enzymes which are required for sulphation. The migraine type headaches are often associated with amines - in infants it displays as bady tumy aches and cramps but then changes to headaches around time of puberty. (FAILSAFE website has good info fact sheet on this). No fenol fixed this problem for my son and he has never had tummy ache since. I know phenols (Including salicylates and amines are a huge problems for him as at 10 months old we did a very strict elimination diet. When on only 10 foods he was fantastic. When these foods were re-introduced the hyperactive and distressed behaviour returned. I understand sulphation is a problem for most with asd so it doesn't surprise me that many have reactions to NP. We go to great lengths to make sure suppplements are flavornoid and flavour free. Guest guest
Natasa , I found a site that described it as I wrote and did not explain why it might be seasonal..or why males were more commonly affected. He is very prone to stress, has many food allergies and gets dreadful hay fever all summer long. He had a bad cold and a lingering cough. He also thinks the room he is in in his flat is damp but can't find any mould. This term he has had 2 Classic migraines with aura , the first he thought was stress triggered , the second not as he felt very relaxed (I see relaxing is on the list of possible triggers for cluster migraines!). The multiple headaches have been going on for about 3 weeks...the bit that is freaking me out is that he has started getting olfactory with these new headaches. I did read something that said you can get aura with the cluster type. My husband who gets both sorts of migraine also told me yesterday that he has had the smell of burning dust for about 3 years and had not realised this may be migraine related....he can't remember if he gets it with the headaches or if it just random! Thanks for the link it was very useful...his are 'stabbing' headaches and shift from side to side so fits the description there , it also says aura is common.. He already avoids loads of foods as they are triggers for his classic migraines, but not eggs or dairy...I will get him to check this too. Thank you so much for taking the time to pass on your wisdom. It has helped us make more sense of my husbands migraines too. when you say start in either autumn or spring could it be triggered by allergic-like reaction? most pollen is spring/summer but could there be something that flowers twice a year in those periods? ragweed or something? The cause of cluster headaches is unknown, although it is suspected that the hypothalamus is involved. The hypothalamus is the area of the brain that influences eating and sleeping patterns, sexual activity, and many chemical and hormone functions. During cluster headaches, the area of the hypothalamus on the headache-affected side of the brain is unusually active. A number of possible cluster headache triggers have been identified. Noise, bright light, and odors, which often trigger migraines, do not appear to set of cluster headaches. Instead, severe cluster headaches may be triggered by: alcohol (many cluster headache sufferers appear to be sensitive to alcohol's effects) allergies and hay fever exposure to temperature changes head injuries relaxation smoking stress. In some instances, it appears eating specific foods triggers cluster headaches. Eggs, chocolate, and diary products have all been associated with cluster headaches. http://www.tree.com/health/types-of-headaches-cluster.aspx > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > A few people have mentioned not getting on very well with > > NP. > > > > Could > > > > > > > you > > > > > > > > please let me know how it affected you. Guest guest
I concur on the cluster headaches I suffer from them since I was about 9 and they always come in the change of season .....
Guest guest
Must have been scary getting these so young , my son and husband both started their classic migraines at about 6 years old. I was wondering if you get hay fever over the summer as well, or do you have any other food allergies? I concur on the cluster headaches I suffer from them since I was about 9 and they always come in the change of season ..... No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Alison , I would very much appreciate the list of safe foods. I am not sure he will be keen to try no fenol if I might have 'caused' this by getting him to try NP!! If he got somewhere with safe foods he might have more faith, also if we could see an improvement we could stop worrying that this might be something worse than cluster migraines...though I appreciate it may not make any difference now they have started up. I presume when you did the 'safe foods' that was with no enzymes at all? , have you never found anything to help these migraines? The eggs, chocolate and dairy products as Natasha mentions are all high in amines. No fenol actually tags amines and removes a carbohydrate group from them so they can be processed.
