Guest guest
Hi to the group. I haven't posted in awhile because my computer had " shock treatment " (the power went out while it was in use and the surge protector didn't protect it. The CPU basically had to be rebuilt from the inside out.) Anyways, it is new and improved and I'm rarin' to post. I'm Janice and purely Canadian, eh! I know there are others from Canada in the group too. Just to refresh you, I have identical GG twins na and Cassandra who are 3years and 5 months. We are doing very well health wise and they started morning preschool in January. (M,W,F from 8-12) They love it and are in a class of 10. There is an aide provided for them and she uses sign language with them too. She is broadening their signing vocabulary faster than mommy and daddy can learn them. As you can tell, in Eastern Canada (New Brunswick) inclusion begins early and is a main focus when it comes to education. Of course across the province, the idea of " what inclusion is " differs greatly. We are advocating to see more consistency. I am very pleased with our district because there are not any " Special Ed. " classes in the local middle schools (gr.6-8) that I am aware of. All students are assigned a homeroom class and receive most classes together. ( In some cases exemptions from French-second language are given so skills in other areas can be strengthened OR either English second language.) But all classes/students receive Life skills regardless of ability.(not disability). I like to think of an IEP as an Inclusive Education Plan rather than Individual. Just my two cents worth. (Which I know isn't worth as much in US funds. LOL) Bye for now - Janice mom-maw to Zachary 5 1/2 years, Cassandra & na 3 1/2 years G-G twins (ds) " my girls with designer genes " and my dh of almost 8 years Troy.
