Guest guest
Hi Kay, Sara (age 12, Grade 5) has had pull-out throughout her years in school; however, it has been more for reading, math, writing, and speech therapy and she is placed in a group who is working at her level. Last year, in fourth grade, she had a dedicated time for a few life skills training, once a week; otherwise, her aide in elementary school worked with her to help her learn her address, phone #, zip her coat, practice tying shoes; She has not been pulled out for science or social studies and often comes home telling me what she has learned in each class--even though, she may not do what the other students are doing at their level, she seems to really enjoy those two subjects. Let us know how everything goes. Marcia Mom to Sara (DS) and 12 and Lucas
Guest guest
Do any of you currently or in the past have you had your child pulled out during Science and/or Social Studies time to give your child lessons in another more critical life skill area or have one on one tailored Science projects at a lower level? We have to meet next month on our IEP and need to decide what to do. The 2nd grade level is already proving to be a little too hard for in some areas. She needs to know basics in all subjects of course, but does she need to know details about famous people vs. being able to write better or zip her coat? It's so hard to make some of these decisions! Also, just FYI that if you get digest format like me it's a day behind almost. I posted yesterday at 11:30 EST and just got my own email in digest form this morning. Guest guest
Hi Kay Maggie is pulled throughout the week....I think it totals 90 minutes. She gets extra help with reading and writing. I have opinions about life skills classes....Maggie is only in 2 nd grade. But from what I understand when she moves to the middle school the balance of her day will be life skills. I may have to fight about that. She is doing fantastic in school....I love the social acceptance she finds there. These little girls truly include her in their play and lives. She goes on playdates and even had her own sleepover! That is really what I always wanted for her from school. class pull out Do any of you currently or in the past have you had your child pulled out during Science and/or Social Studies time to give your child lessons in another more critical life skill area or have one on one tailored Science projects at a lower level? Guest guest
We do the opposite with Davey. He is at the same school as Will, but not in the same classes. He is in a contained program about 50% of the time. It has one teacher and 3 aides. There are 11 children from 6 to age 9. He is thriving. In this setting, his academic skills are individual for him. He joins the regular 1st grade class for all " non 3 Rs' situation. He goes for science, computers, music, etc and all recesses. He has a very busy social life at school. His reading is improving nicely. He also learns life skills in the contained classroom. They go intop the community once a month. They shopped for Christmas presents for the whole family in December. I know each child is different, but I feel Davey is getting a fantasatic education at this school. mom to Amy 19, Kelsey 16, DAvey 6, and Will > > Hi Kay > > Maggie is pulled throughout the week....I think it totals 90 minutes. Guest guest
Kay, I like your reasoning, for next year I want Zack pulled out for additional Math, he has not grasped the Math stuff and soon it will be so hard for him to keep up. I agree that it should be during the other subjects, so he will essentially get MATH twice.
