I don’t think this has anything to do with multiples and

DS. I’m not saying I condone this movie, I just don’t think

this is the appropriate group to send this message to.

Are you familiar with " The Golden Compass " ?

I received this email and feel it is definitely worth sharing with

you:

Please spread

the word

I read the snopes article and this is definitely worth passing around. It's very

disturbing. Be sure you read the link below.

http://snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp

You may already know about the kids' movie coming out December 7th,

starring Kidman. It's called The Golden Compass, and while it

will be a watered down version, it is based on a series of children's books

about killing God. (It is the anti-Narnia.) Please follow this link

and then pass it on. From what I understand, the hope is to get a lot of

kids to see the movie - which won't seem too bad - and then get the parents to

buy the books for their kids for Christmas. The quotes from the author

sum it all up.

I hope it

totally bombs because we were all paying attention!

Hi,

I personally appreciate the information and hadn't heard about it...

This has to do with children, whether they are multiples and have DS, or

not... Since 2/3 of my children have dyspraxia and cognitive delays,

even moreso, I need to consistently make available in our family what I

feel is valuable for them to grow physically, emotionally, and

spiritually. It is even harder to reset their little ritualistic buttons

once they get something in their heads... With this information, I can

review it and decide if I agree or not.

The " delete " button is a handy tool for the stuff that I feel is

" junk " ... Just my two cents... Thanks Beau for your thoughts... They are

appreciated, too. I'm curious what others think...

OK, my question is off this subject but I wasn't familiar with what said about 2/3 of our kids having dyspraxia, would you mind explaining a little more about it and what to look for and do for it. Hi Miriam - I just meant that we have 3 kids and 2 of them have severe

dyspraxia, among other things... Dyspraxia is a sequencing, motor

planning issue. It is also a significant gap between receptive and

expressive language. Our geneticist diagnosed it and our speech language

therapist confirmed it. It requires frequent, intense services to

offset. Just to learn to speak, our girls have to plan to push the air

from their lungs with their diaphragm, position the mouth muscles and

also coordinate voice volume, tone, etc., all at the right time, in

order to appropriately speak. Dyspraxia plays into many areas, like

toilet skills, bilateral play, sitting up and breathing at the same

time, etc. With everything I teach them, it typically requires frequent

repetition in order to master. Hope this helps...

My thinking was we are all parents first and it was sent to me from a triplet email string as FYI and

that was how I sent it fyi nothing more, we all get so busy with our kids we aren't always current

on other topics, I hadn't even heard of the movie, I will stay ds focused for future posts.

Irene - So many times, we've looked forward to reading stuff you've come

across and/or your thoughts, experiences, advice, etc. It takes a world

to raise a child w/special needs and this subject interrelates with DS

(at least with my family)... Please don't stop now, unless the moderator

has an issue... -

I agree with !!!!! It is important to pass on info that pertains

to kids...whether DS or multiples or just kids. Parents are the best

source of info. Thanks for passing this on.

I also agree with ! The more we are informed as Parents the better decisions we can make for all our children like Deanna said.....whether DS or multiples or just kids and most children at some time or another are taken to the movies. Thanks for passing this info on to this group. Judy, 's MomDeannalee0524@... wrote: I agree with !!!!! It is important to pass on info that pertains to kids...whether DS or multiples or just kids. , Oh, I am so sorry I didn't read your email correctly. I am glad you clarifies because I now realize this is what my has (he was diagnosed this summer) but the speech people at school don't seem to think so. I would love to know where you get all your information from. Everything you mention is exactly what my little guy has. I want to get as much ammunition with the school and also find out if he should be getting different kinds of services. The degree between receptive and expressive is huge. I agree -- and I think that the fact that this message has religious connotations makes it especially inappropriate. It really bothers me when people view my daughter as some kind of message/symbol regarding my religious beliefs. Clearly, lots of people don't agree with this interpretation of the movie. This listserv should not be used as a vehicle for spreading any particular religious views or other non-DS-related commentary. Bash away... Thank you for pointing out about changing the topic in the subject if we change it. I am very guilty of that because I don't know how to use yahoo groups correctly. I will definitely change the way I do it in the future. I think the person who gave the idea of putting OT or off topic in the subject had the best idea. I agree this is for DS topics but from what I have seen in the short time I have been here many parents seem to be friends and our kids are kids first they happen to have DS, so for some, kid topics are important. I am OK with what ever way you decide to go. Miriamigercak wrote: My thinking was we are all parents first and it was sent to me from a triplet email string as FYI and that was how I sent it fyi nothing more, we all get so busy with our kids we aren't always current on other topics, I hadn't even heard of the movie, I will stay ds focused for future posts. I think we are probably going on too long with this but another thought I had was if we are "censored" when it has to do with God and religion that sounds like it will mean we can't ask for prayer for a certain situation or tell someone we are praying for them and that would sad in my opinion because as parents with kids who have special needs we all need prayer at times. I know that not everyone believes in prayer so I am sorry to say this about prayer but I just see so many wonderful things said to those who are struggling with things and for some this might be all the support they have or because of the anonymous ability with a yahoo group they feel more able to "talk" here. Any way I know the person who started this never wanted this to become a "hot topic" they were just passing something along they thought was of interest to others and I for one thank them because as has been mentioned before our kids are kids before they are anything else and it is

nice to have kid topics too. This said we should probably make a decision what the rule is so we don't upset or offend any ones feelings. Since I started this… It wasn’t because of God

and religion that I objected. I objected because it was about boycotting

a stupid movie. In my opinion we have better things to discuss on this

listserv. I don’t contribute much, so I won’t respond any

more on this. For the record, C.S. was one of my favorite authors

as a child.
