Guest guest
Kay, That is great news. We went through this a couple of years ago with Tyler. His blood work was border line however the biopsies were negative. We were told by both the Gastroenterologist and Dr. Lewanda to have his blood tested every two years. Even though he is negative now it develop later. In fact my father-in-law has Celiac Disease, he did not show signs or symptoms until well into his 50's. They believe that he was probably always susceptible to it but either stress or a virus triggered to develop. I hope that you were given the same information. Tyler did have his a second round of blood work and this time his blood counts for Celiac markers had improved. Tyler is very small for his age to and also much smaller than most kids with DS. We are starting to look at his growth hormone levels. Katy Touve mom to 9, and Tyler(DS) 6, Sterling, VA > > Hi. I just writing to check in as well. Guest guest
How funny! knows what he likes to eat! -- Re:Check-in Day! Hello - I haven't posted in a while so here is an update on . He had started banging his head, so I decided to buy him a "bumper bonnet" and I put it on every time he started banging his head. Well, I guess it helped because he very rarely does it now. I think some of it was "stimming" and some of may have been from teething pain. On a lighter note, we've still been having feeding problems - issues with taste and texture. We went to Don Pablo's again last night (a local Mexican restaurant) and ate everything I put in front of him! He did the same thing the last time we took him. He must have a thing for Mexican! We were joking that we'll have to take hime there every night, because if I make Mexican food at home he still won't eat it. B. Mom to , 4, and (DS, hydrocephalus), 23 mos. Guest guest
Hi , must get a lot of input from the spices. Haley loves wasabi on her sandwiches and will chew more when she has it. Combination foods (i.e., casseroles, sandwiches, chunky soups, etc.) where it is varying textures and firmnesses in the same bolus is the next chewing goal that the girls are working on. might also do well with auditory foods, ie, anything that crunches. I started with marrying firm foods with wasa crackers, placing them on the girls' molars, and cueing them (verbally & physically) as needed to chew, ultimately fading out the prompts as they learned to lateralize the food to the molars themselves and chew appropriately. The girls also like other spices like cinnamon, lemon, garlic, ginger, pepper, onion, hummus, guacamole, baby food purees as dips, etc. I lightly steam various vegetables (carrots, broccoli, green beans, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, etc) so they still crunch and are firm, then add the spices. The spices really helped with that, too. Hope this helps, Granata Haley, Nikki, & Blackwood wrote: > Hello - I haven't posted in a while so here is an update on . > He had started banging his head, so I decided to buy him a " bumper > bonnet " and I put it on every time he started banging his head. Guest guest
Hi Joanna here! I am a 15-year-old babysitter to almost 5-year-old twin girls, one with DS. The girls are doing great and are as cute as ever. \ The girls birthday is only a few days before the school cut-off, so they will be held back a year so they won't be the youngest ones in their class. The one with DS will be moving on to kindergarten this fall so she can continue her special education program, and then will do kindergarten next year so she can stay with her sister. The one without DS will be doing another year of preschool, and then starting kindergaten next year. The one with DS is speaking so much lately. Her vocabulary keeps getting bigger. She is still very hard to understand, and doesn't use words consistantly, but is doing a lot better than she was. She is very stubborn though and will only speak when she feels like it. Thats about all that is new with the girls. : )
Guest guest
Hello All, It’s Suze here from California. We are hanging in there! Gavin is fully included in Kindergarten this year and it has had lots of challenges. Our challenges have been with implementing his IEP, not with inclusion, so we are in the process of getting an attorney. Lots of fun behaviors are cropping up since the school won’t support total communications (Sign and Icons). Gavin now hits, screams out, kicks, has bit once and most recently thrown poop. It is lovely… all the things he is learning that we didn’t write goals for! Nic and Kris are enjoying high school. They are a lot of help with their brother, too. We are looking forward to a quiet Christmas this year, staying close to home and enjoying the break together. Guest guest
Hi Suze, Wow. It sounds a little crazy for Gavin. Hang in there and let me know how it goes. Davey picked up some new behaviors (bad ones) this year too. He is not included, except for about ten percent of the day. Luckily we were able to discuss the issues with Davey's teacher, and he knew which child's behavior he was modeling. It has gotten a little better. But, Davey is so stubborn that our patience is sometimes pushed to the limit. Guest guest
(DS) is doing well in the multidisabled kindergarten. She's reading more words which continues to amaze us and tries to sound out words she don't know. I wish for more inclusion which I have to discuss with the teacher. I feel like she's not getting the " kindergarten experience " like my son is getting in his school. My son is very hyper. He's doing well in school but has a problem with following directions and sitting still. We're busy now with Christmas activities and the kids are having fun. Guest guest
We have not posted in a while. will be 3 in June and he's not quite walking yet. He does a cute thing where we say " standin' " and he will try to stand up directly from a seated position, then he laughs and scrunches his eyes. That's when we call him " Mr. Cheese. " He is just such an adorable little guy and he brings so much joy to our lives. I predict that he will walk by the end of the summer. 's story was published in a newsletter I work on for Help Me Grow of Cuyahoga County, so he is now famous!
