Guest guest
Hi all, I enjoy reading the family updates. It has been slow here, lately. I thought I would share a little story about how Sara (DS), age 11, outsmarts me. She really brings us a lot of joy in little ways most days (also frustration, when she is so stubborn). The other night, we were working on homework (spelling). The lesson was about homophones (words that sound alike, but may be spelled differently and they have different meanings or definitions). The word she chose to put the definitions for was "ball". So she wrote the word ball and next to it wrote a "dancing party," I said, "very good, now what is the meaning of the other ball", She said, "I throw the ball to my friends or I kick the soccer ball." I said what you need to do is write the definition or description of a ball, you are saying what you can do with a ball. She still wasn't getting it, so I then said, pretend I am blind and I ask you to tell me what a ball looks like. At that point, she said, "then put on your glasses." I could not help but laugh out loud. I hope you are all having a great day! Marcia Mom to Sara (DS) and 11 and Lucas
Guest guest
I also enjoy hearing about all our families. We took the boys to see Barney on stage last night and they had a ball! They were both bopping in their seats, and Luke was glued to the stage the entire time. Loud noises seem to bother him lately, so I wasn't sure how he'd react since these types of shows are always LOUD, but once Barney came out on stage, he forgot all about the noise! It's so much fun to watch your kids having so much fun! Their birthday is April 10, so I'm starting to think about their party, and we'll probably have a few little friends over on a Saturday, celebrate with the family on that Sunday, and then let them take treats to school (2 separate classes) on Monday, which is their birthday. That will take a lot of coordination on my part! Lately, they've been relatively healthy--just little colds--so I'm hoping we can get thru the rest of the winter without any more major illnesses. Hope everyone else is doing well--have a great week! --mom to Luke (DS) and Jake, nearly 4!
Guest guest
Marcia I cannot tell you how funny your stories are of Sara...... I told my family at dinner a while back , how Sara outsmarted everyone at school when she faked being sick, and went home just because she didn't want to be with her aide..............my older guys and husband were cracking up, at how smart she is, and can only hope our Tara will be too!!! Thanks for sharing! Gail, Mom to Bobby 12, Jillian 9 1/2, & Tara (Ds) turning 7 in 2 weeks Re: It has been pretty quiet for awhile so I thought I would s... Guest guest
We took the boys to see Dragon Tails when they were here in Reno. It was SO much fun. Davey stood up and yelled to his favorite character " Ord " when he saw him on stage! We did a family party and a kid party too. It was kind of interesting, all of the kids from Davey's class came, while all of the kids we invited from Will's class didn't come???? Strange. It has been quiet here lately! Guest guest
Hi and everyone, Thanks for the support and kind words-----today was the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress convention in Worcester. I go every year with my mother and aunt. It was good as always. Such a long and busy day but informative. Hope all is well with everyone---just patiently awaiting spring. Oh yeah, we had mediation the other day with the City of Boston to absolutely no avail. Mediation was Tuesday and on Friday, after they received my letter requesting to move on with a hearing, they offered a seat in what sounds to be a pretty good school. I will be checking it out next week. You can't imagine how rude the City of Boston program director was. I intend to write her and her superior a note when all is said and done. She never made eye contact with me and .......oh I could go on and on but most of you have walked in my shoes so you all know how bad it can be. Unbelievable....I will keep everyone posted to the progess; I do have high hopes for a positive outcome. EMily is doing great where she is but it's not a school which is always in the back of my mind.......anyway, good night everyone...
