I remember those days. Davey used to do the same thing. I do know he grew out of it. I think you are on the right tract, although Davey didn't have intestinal issues. Keep us posted how he is doing.

Hello All,One of my twins, on, (7 1/2 weeks) has been spitting up lately to the point of the formula coming out of his nose and mouth and he can't breathe. I need to pick him up, turn him over and put my finger in his mouth. It is very scary and needless to say I won't leave him with anyone, even my older children. My husband and I thought it was a burping thing- if he doesn't burp well he could spit up. So we stopped feeding him if we don't get a burp out of him. We burp him every 1/2 to 3/4 ounce. This means he may only get 1-1/2 or 2 of the 3 ounces in the bottle so I need to feed him more often. Well I thought that was the case until it happened again today. I fed him and he burped several times, although no really big burp. I propped him in the crib so he can sleep (I am afraid to leave him lying flat) and two hours later I changed him. I walked away to get a wash cloth and it happened again... two hours later! I called the pediatrician and I had to speak to the nurse triage answering machine! I also put a call into the surgeon who performed his operation (for malrotated intestines) and am waiting for a call back.Has anyone seen this with thier child? His twin brother is fine and can eat so much more.Thank you in advance for your help, Whittakermom to (17), Brittany (13), Robyn (13), na (12) and twins and on (7 weeks- both DS)

We went thru the same thing with Luke (DS) when he was an infant. If

we didn't get a good burp out of him then we were assured most of it

would come back up, and that's awful when it comes out the nose & he

can't breathe. It's scary for everybody. We did the same thing

you're doing by burping every 1/2 ounce or so, and I also never laid

him down after feeding, and would usually put him in the bouncy seat

for awhile so at least he was partially sitting up. Luke didn't have

any intestinal issues, but he had such a weak sucking reflex that it

would take forever to feed him, only to have much of it come back

up. For a little guy having a hard time gaining weight, it was very

upsetting to me.

On the upside, he eventually outgrew it. You're trying just what we

did. Hopefully it will get better for you soon.

Congratulations on the babies and welcome to the group! I think

you'll find a lot of support and information here.

Our son with DS has this. They call it reflux. We took him to a GI

(gastro intestinal) specialist. They put him on a small dose of

eurthymacin (antibiotics) that we give him every day. Its helped a lot.

Has your pediatrician called you back yet? Surgeon?

Just a reminder-keep your bulb syringe near by. You can suction him in his

mouth and nose. They should have sent one home with you from the hospital. If

you dont feel comfortable using it have the nurse show you. And if they didnt

send one home with you-you can buy one at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc...

Hi,

I am probably just repeating all the other responses. did

lots of spitting up. I was constantly changing her clothes,

changing my shirt, washing blankets, wiping the floor...for months.

(I forget how long this went on - that blur again.) Our dr.

recomended lying her on her tummy to sleep, since the risk of

choking outweighed the risk of SIDS - you could find out your dr's

thoughts on that. We did the same as you have read in the other

reponses - kept her upright as long as possible after feeding, on my

shoulder for awhile, or on my son's shoulder (this is where having

older siblings comes in handy!), or in her bouncy seat. It took a

LONG time to get a burp out of her, and sometimes we never did get a

good burp and she would spit up whenever we put her down.

When I started her on cereal, and began adding the Nutrivene to the

cereal, the spitting up got much worse. I had to cut way back to a

tiny amount of Nutrivene, then very gradually build up to what she

could keep down. She was almost 2 years old before I got up to the

full daily amount of Nutrivene, but I figured a little vitamin was

better than none.
