Guest guest
Hi All, Still very crazy here! I think we must be on our 5th or 6th IEP meeting here in Loudoun County. Seems like staff here feels that IEP meetings are just an invitation (even though their district plan from IDEA 2004 says different.) At several of the IEP meetings, we haven't had pivotal people at the table to discuss important goals like chewing skill development or those that can commit to services, even though we asked for these people to be present. School ends in a week and a half and we haven't even discussed summer yet! Ridiculous! The IEP drafts, research, and advocacy have been ongoing since March and I wonder if this is Loudoun's way of wearing down parents. Staying organized and focused with lists and getting rid of the old drafts helps me keep on top of things! Emails back/forth are a nice record of what's been transpiring, too. The girls started walking independently in March and are refining their skills with this. They still resort to scooching and rolling to transport themselves and need to be reminded to stand up and walk. It's taken so long for them to learn to walk and people joke that they bet I wish they didn't walk because I have three that are walking now, but they've been so much on me (physically) to carry that my 42 yr old body is very sore and tired and just doesn't bounce back like it did before. I feel like I'm still healing from all the C-sections! is amazing and I'm grateful to have a son that's typical to help push the girls up developmentally. The kids act like triplets in so many ways. It's sweet to see how they spontaneously play together or hold hands or hug. Welcome to the new members! I am so grateful for the friendships, advice, and wisdom from this group! Guest guest
Go Go Go !! That is terrible ( illeagl, & unethical) what your district is doing to you! Honestly, if key people are not present at an annual review, you have the right, & should ask for the meeting to be rescheduled & walk out! Do you work outside the home M thru F? Your time is just as valuable taking all this time to go back & forth to these "pow-wows!" I have both my daughter's annual reviews tomorrow, so guess I'm alittle fired up right now, & on my 3rd cup of coffee! Good Luck to all of us!! Guest guest
Hi everyone, We made it thru the end of the boys' first year of school, which they absolutley loved, wrote a good IEP, and are settling in for a fun summer. I have the boys enrolled in Kindermusik once a week for 5 weeks. We have done the classes before and just loved them. Luke will be taking a speech class at the University of Illinois geared for preschoolers with an IEP. They work in small groups (no more than 6), work from the child's IEP, and also have an OT who comes in once a week. It's 4 hours a week, two hours at a time. I hope he likes it, because his speech is really emerging and that's one therapy we can't take time off of. I was a little put out with our school who said he didn't qualify for ESY. But I am satisfied that I was able to get him into this speech class over the summer. We have our playgroup once a week, so they get to do fun things with their friends, and I get to spend time with my friends, too! We are flying to Colorado in July for 9 days to visit family, and we're looking forward to speding time in the mountains and at Rocky Mtn. Natl. Park. It will be an adventure to be sure. I will have my knee scoped at the end of July, so I am glad most of the boys' activities will be over by then since I will be a little less mobile than usual for awhile. Have a great summer! --mom to Luke & Jake, age

Guest guest
Hi Sherrill- As of today I am a stay at home mom. Feels kind of wierd. So hard to believe that after 16 years of sitting in traffic to Boston every day I don't have to do it anymore. We should definately plan to get together this summer. How about a picnic at castle island? The kids can watch the boats and planes. Anybody else in the Boston area want to join us? Guest guest
Deanna, I hope your spirits will be lifted soon, I feel the same way, it seems when it rains it pours. I wouldn't trade my life for anything, but sometimes I find myself wondering will it always be so hard? what is around the corner? my 83 yr old MIL is battling cancer and just released from the hospital into my care? My mom is 83 and we are converting our detached garage into a home for her. This week I broke down and took my other 3 children to the eye doctor (Zack ds has bifocals) they have said stuff like I see different in each eye, or i see worse at night, well all 3 need glasses for stigmatisms, and I feel like a dope for ignoring their pleas. My older son Jake has alapecia universalis no hair or brows and a only a few lashes, well the eye doctor informed me his eyes are in jeopardy and very dry since your lashes act as a barrier and seal in moisture so he will require meds. Lately he is getting called a freak w/ no brows and has started making a bizarre throat clearing sound ( maybe a behavior tick?). Each thing alone is no big deal , but all at once is getting me down. So I'll pray we both get a lift and things get easier ok? Irene Jake 10 , , & Zachary ds 8 Re: Check-in Day!, 6/5/2006, 12:00 am This is Deanna et al. Everything is still the same here. Guest guest
Deanna, Do Alyssa and actually have to pass exams to move on to the next grade, or is it just based on the year's work/grades. If they have exams, is it every year? What state do you live in? I know that "high-stakes testing" is becoming huge, but it seems like to test every year with the threat of being held back woudn't profit anyone! Guest guest
Hello, Checking in here. I have a lot to catch up on, as I haven't checked here in awhile. As soon as I type this, I am going to read and catch up on what's been happening here. Nothing dramatic here, which is good actually! is doing so well. Her language development is just amazing us. It seems like every few days, we hear her say a new word. Tonight it was " bath " when I put her in the bathtub. Well, she doesn't say these words exactly right (she said " baa " ) but we know what she means. She does say some words very clearly though, the really important ones LOL, like " shoes " and " outside. " She loves to get her shoes on and go outside! Lately it seems that is my easy child, and the others are the ones with problems. My son Ian is suffering the angst of pubery, has trouble getting to sleep at night and won't tell me why, and Kate, well, she is just trouble - very strong-willed. But overall, we are all doing OK here. All for now.
