I visited my twins class today (regular education

first class). My son, Xerxes, has Down syndrome.

I saw a lot if thing that was good. Some of you

might have heard me last year when things was

really bad, but they have a new teacher this year.

* The classroom teacher uses signs, even when she

is not talking directly to Xerxes.

* He had stamps with the numbers on to use in the

math book (he is learning to write, but his fine

motor is not that good yet)

* His desk has a tilted surfaces and now it was

secured with 4 rubbers (!). Last time I visited is moved whenever he pushed it.

*His chair is well adapted to hem. Last visit he

had another chair that was not good at all.

* All students had pencil grips. Xerxes needs it,

but as almost everyone has it it's not strange to have it.

* The class has it's own restroom (a bigger one).

There is a locked cabin in there with stuff you

need if he has an accident - near, but no one

else notice. There is a smaller toilet seat as

well, the only drawback was a to small stool.

* The class has PE with half of the class in

second grade on Thursdays and Fridays. They have

the same activities on both occasions. This means

Xerxes gets a chance to learn what to do and be

in more. He has an assistant at PE.

* During the big music time (kindergarten to

grade 3) they sang a lot of songs with movements

and repeated lyrics. The boy in front of Xerxes

(in 2:d grade) had a natural interaction with

Xerxes - we have to invite him to play some day.

* Two older girls greeted him happily and when

they passed one said to the other " Xerxes is

really cool! " (I don't think they even saw me).

That's all I remember now
