Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, I pasted this link from the Thyroid Helpers board - I have been told that DO's are very good at treating Thyroid problems - better than endos as a general rule (not in every case of course). <http://www.osteopathic.org/index.cfm?PageID=findado_main> http://www.osteopathic.org/index.cfm?PageID=findado_main regards, Kerry Re: Opinions Please Gail, I checked out that top docs list you told me about. I found an endocrinologist there that people said good things about. I hope they are right. I made an appointment today. Of course I can't get in till December so I have a while to be patient. Anyone out there ever had a really good doc they loved in the Dallas area? If so, please tell me about them, maybe I will check them out. I figured it out today, since January I have gone from 175mcg (where I was okay for almost a year) to the 225mcg I am on now. Is this common? To me it says something is wrong. Maybe I just get a little too worked up though. I'd love opinions from anybody. Thanks for the tip Gail, Carolyn > > Thanks for the info Gail, I will add fibromyalgia to my list of > > possibilities. Guest guest
Carolyn, I highly recomend Dr. Fred F. Ciarochi. He is in Duncanville. I went to him in the early 1990's until I moved. He got my Hypothyroidism under control and it's still doing fine. I don't know his telephone number. Joyce Re: Opinions Please Gail, I checked out that top docs list you told me about. Guest guest
I have to agree with you, the band does not look like it is fitting correctly. It is rotating way too much on the head and shouldn't be touching the ears like that. Also, the opening around the ears seems quite large. Personally, I would insist upon getting a new band. Guest guest
Oh my goodness Jodie: to be blunt -THAT is an ill fitted band if I ever saw one. Aweful fit...too small, too tight, too crooked, WRONG. Is your ortho experienced? Either way, experience or nt, demand a new fitting, demand a new band (at NO cost to you or your ins), and demand you start over w/this process, what a shame. Guest guest
I also have to agree. The band definitely doesn't look right. It is way too far on his face. I'm sure they will fix it when you bring it in. Good luck. Ginger > > > Ok, I am finally getting around to putting pictures of my son Evan up. > I started a topic last week about Hanger helmets. Guest guest
Ughhhh! It makes me sick to hear your opinion, but I know it's the truth! I just needed to hear it from others. I feel so bad for my little man. When I called to make the first appointment, I asked about her experience, and the receptionest said she has been here for 12 years and has done many children. It sounded good to me. What do I do if they will not replace the helmet? I looked into CT and they are not in my insurance plan. I really wish they were. Guest guest
Hello, Jodie, My daughter is currently in a Hanger Helmet from Cinci, OH. In looking at the pictures, the first thing that catches my eye is how the helmet sits so far back on the forehead...it should to my understanding be right above the eye brows. Also, the band is touching the ears...occasionally, my daughter's ears will touch when she is rolling all over the place on the floor, but never when she is upright. Third, I agree with the other comment...it does look too small. My daughter's helmet, moves some, gives a little and I see gaps in places...ie: areas where the head is to grow into. I do know that my daughters helmet sometimes appears off center, but she had a moderate to severe plagio so her forehead protruded on one side, now the forehead is even so the helmet seems to be sitting better on her head. I do hope this helps. By the way, are you seeing any improvement...red spots in areas where they should not be? Good luck, Becky > > > Ok, I am finally getting around to putting pictures of my son Evan up. > I started a topic last week about Hanger helmets. Guest guest
WOW That is one of the worst fitting bands I have seen. The ear holes are way too big... and severely rotated out of place; to the point that one of the sideburns is pressing on your child's cheekbone. The sideburns are a holding point... so it is using your son's cheeckbone as a holding point!!!! I would absolutely demand a new band (with a new orthotist, if possible). Not only does is it grossly mis-fit, you can also tell that it was not cut/made correctly. If it were me, I would call Hanger directly and speak to someone high up.. send them the pictures and tell them you would like someone to oversee the handling and re-making of the new helmet (and ask what will be done to hold those responsible for making and fitting such a poorly made helmet for your child). Time is of the essence, and something that is so poorly made and fitted can actually do harm. I would start raising some heck and demand it be fixed immediately. I'm so sorry you have to go through this... how frustrating for you.... Please let us know how it goes tomorrow! Just my two cents, Colleen Opinions Please Ok, I am finally getting around to putting pictures of my son Evan up. I started a topic last week about Hanger helmets. I do not feel my son's helmet fits correctly especially after seeing pics. of other children. I have an appointment tomorrow with hanger for a check up and I would really like your honest opinions. Guest guest
Obviously I cannot say what is wrong with the inside - but I can definatley tell you it looks twisted - it shifts too much. The side burns should be over the sideburns - not the cheek. And it should not be squishing the ear. It also looks a little high on the forehead too. HTH! Guest guest
Call your ins. and tell them you went with who they said to go to and that the abnd is ill-fitting by someone who does not know what they are doing. That you would like them to please cover a DOC becuase if you were to continue treatment with who they sent you to there could be irreversable damage to your sons head and they would be liable for that damage. Maybe then they will do what needs to be done. Or maybe try the approach that this band is ill fitting and would they please get reimbursed for what they have paid and then apply that amount to DOC and you pay the difference?? At first they were willing to cover it as "out of network" but then I got them to cover it as in network after talking to the right people... I am nto saying you have to go to CT, but I wouldnt rule it out just bc they arent in your plan. I dont know if I know ANYONE who it was in their plan... Guest guest
My son has a helmet made in Nashville. When he was fitted we noticed the left ear hole was too far forward, the back of his ear looked like it was being pushed forward. When we questioned it the tech told us she could not make it bigger because it would mess up the fit of the helmet. So she shaved some of the foam back. We were still not happy, but she said it was not pushing his ear. We went for our 1 month check up at Vanderbilt this past Monday. The Cranial Specialist looked at it and said it was unacceptable and we needed a new helmet. Of course my first question was "Who is paying for a new helmet?". The doctor got on the phone and told them to be expecting us and to make a new helmet at their expense. A mold was made from my son's current helmet and we go to pick up the new helmet Monday. I know how you feel about all of the travel time and taking off from work. We live 2 hours away from our doctor. Luckily we have family in Nashville and are able to stay with them. I don't work and my husband being a firefighter only works every third day so we are able to stay the night afterwards. The appointments take so long and both you and the baby are drained by the time you leave. Good luck! Mother of , 9 months Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! > > Good luck!> > Mother of , 9 months> > > ---------------------------------> Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Guest guest
My thought too - Maybe call your ortho and talk to them about it. I know that my dd's helmet was delayed for some reason and they were going to give it to me 1 month after the scan - it wasn't until I brought up "industry standards being within 2 weeks of the cast or scan" that they agreed to rescan. Not only was your 1st band wrong BUT if it is going to be more than 2 weeks since the last cast or scan you need a new one - your babies head will have grown and changed too much for tha band to be correct. I would think they'd need to re- scan or cast your son's head. Guest guest
I realized my post may have come across a little confusing. It should have read... I'm confused...if the first helmet is wrong, why would they do the new helmet from the first helmet? I would think they'd need to re- scan or cast your son's head. > > > > My son has a helmet made in Nashville. Guest guest
I just wanted to say Thank you to everone who gave me their opinion. I wanted to let you all know Evan was scanned on Monday for a new helmet. (not casted like last time). We get the new one on the 22nd. I really hope this one fits him better. He is still wearing his old one until then. Now that we got that straighted out, now it's on to fighting the ins. co. Our Job never ends does it? Have a Great Day! Guest guest
That's great that he is getting a new helmet. I just don't understand why he is continuing to wear the old one. I am still new to all of this but I would think that it wouldn't be good to keep a bad fitting helmet on. Good luck with the new helmet & with your insurance company fight. Guest guest
In all the things I have tried over the years....only one thing really worked for me. That is the pellatized (time released) minocin. I tried about everything people told me about and was under a rheumatologist care for 8 years. Nothing worked well until I went to a doc who specialized in antibiotic protocol using Minocin. I have been pain free pretty much since 2001. I stay on 100 mg minocin three days a week. Feel good, energy is back, no more joint damage. Life is great and I highly recommend this protocol. Martha **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products.
