Guest guest
Babe probably has some reflux issues-more common than you think in a newborn. Keeping him/her upright 24/7 should help for a few weeks until the sphincter at the top of the stomach develops. Some babies even need some Zantac from the pediatrician for the first few weeks. Two of my 4 had that and slept in an infant swing or car seat for the first few weeks to lessen spitups or aspiration. Guest guest
Permission to post..... I have a client whose nipples would not heal. I placed her on 15mg biotin, 50mg zinc, probiotics (all per day), and APNO cream (after each feeding session). Her nipples are almost completely healed, but now there is another issue. Since she started this regiment (on saturday) her baby has thrown up (mouth and nose) several times. There is a flu bug going around her kids' school, but I thought I would see if anyone else has ever found this reaction in a baby to the above supplements and cream. Is it possible that this regiment is too strong for the baby's tummy (baby is 17 days old) or is this coincidence? Should we back off of something? Would love to hear what everyone has to say. Guest guest
Hello, Robin. I don't know enough about biotin and zinc appropriate dosing levels to comment on those. But I do know that there will always be somebody who has a bad reaction to any given food, drug, herb, etc. I worked with a baby who got a rash around his lips from the APNO (probably due to a preservative in one of the ingredients, but don't really know for sure). When mom started gently washing off the APNO before each feeding, baby's rash went away. Most babies do not react that way and wiping off the medication before feedings is not necessary, but it was for him. I am wondering if perhaps this baby can't tolerate something in the APNO. If mother is not currently washing it off before feedings, she might try doing that and see if that stops baby's vomiting. Of course, it is always possible that the older kids brought home that flu bug from school and the baby got it! Dee Kassing Permission to post.....I have a client whose nipples would not heal. Guest guest
A midwife, knowledgeable in supplements recently told a mom I'm working with that babies can react to zinc with gastric upset. This mom was taking a vitamin/mineral supplement added to water to increase hydration given her by her chiro. I don't know the outcome yet since her baby's gassiness/reflux likely caused by tongue-tie just revised. Barbara Latterner I have a client whose nipples would not heal.
