Guest guest
Una, Our 5 year old son was just diagnosed with Aspergers and one of our biggest problems has been the potty training and the bed wetting. The doctor prescribed Desmopressin for this. This might be of some help. Of interest, the same doctor also suggested we research Risperdal and Abilify before meeting him again. Strattera worked only when we could get him (my son, not the doctor!) to take it, it tasted awful. So, I'm interested if anyone has more to say about either of these meds. a.k.a. Guest guest
Hi , I have a ds that is almost 10 and he still wets the bed on and off. I think in my ds case, it is how sound he sleeps. He has been on Risperdal at night now for about 3 months and it seems to help him sleep better. He is also on concerta in the mornings for school. They seem to really help him. Of course every child is different so it may not work for you. Guest guest
, I can tell you a little about Risperdal, my son is taking it. Even though it is an anti-psychotic it is prescribed for other reasons. It really helps with his aggressive behavior and he is able to control his outbursts much better. Because of that he feels better about himself. It also helps him to sleep at night. The draw back we found was the weight gain, it was very dramatic. He went from a pathetically skinny kid that hated food to a very overweight cookie monster. We took him off Risperdal for 2 years but finally went back on it because none of the other meds replaced it. We tried Abilify and Geodon. Right now he just takes it in the morning because of the weight issue and takes Geodon at night to help with sleep. I never had the bedwetting problem with , instead he would wet during the day and it always happened in the summer when he was 3 to 6 years old. I kept thinking it was just his reluctance to leave play and come in the house but I finally figured out what the problem really was, he was allergic to food dyes, especially blue. Every summer I would buy a box of those frozen otter pops and the kids would eat several of those a day. I started to notice that about an hour after he had one he would come in the house with wet pants. (By then he was old enough to be embarrassed.) I started experimenting with his diet and discovered several things that we eventually excluded from his diet. All synthetic dyes were a problem, most caused hyperactivity or inability to hold his urine. So, he still does not get anything with food dyes unless they come from a natural source, such as beets. There are a few other items that cause problems, some are just weird, like bananas, bagels and beef jerky. Surprisingly enough, sugar didn't cause him to be hyperactive, but mint does, so no more Tic Tacs (one of his favorites) or anything with mint flavor. This Christmas break I went ahead and let him have some M & M's after lots of pleading. Even though he is 14 he still cannot control himself when it comes to food dyes, he was very unmanageable. Hope this helps a little, > > Hi everyone, > > my name is Una and i live in the uk. Guest guest
Enuresis Treatment Center We had the same problem with our Asperger son during Kindergarten. His pediatrician did not want him to go on any meds for this, but suggested a reward and punishment system. This was absolutely ridiculous to punish a child who is doing something that is completely out of their control. I heard an advertisement for the Enuresis Treatment Center on the radio and made an appointment. After signing up our son was completely dry within a few weeks. you might want to check out their web site and I can answer more specific questions if you need more info. Good luck! http://www.drybed.com/ Bed Wetting Meds- Desmopressin Una,Our 5 year old son was just diagnosed with Aspergers and one of our biggest problems has been the potty training and the bed wetting.
