I think you are right about not worrying about the 15 pounds. It's not worth

it. BUT, not exercising is a different story. I know you have a crazy

schedule with school and the family, but try to find time for it. You do so

well when you taebo.

Hey, today you get to redeem yourself with AL5! Sorry to mention that tape

(it killed me on Monday; one of these days it will be easy). It sounds like

you are being too hard on yourself. 3-4 days a week of exercise (steady with

no excuses) might be more realistic with your schedule at least until the

next break. That is a major accomplishment to maintain your weight and

fitness.

This goes way back to 1988 or so when I was still recovering from my back

injury and surgery. My biggest obstacle was fear -- fear of pain, fear of

regressing physically, and probably fear of failing. My doctor kept pushing

exercise as a means for controlling my chronic pain and finally started

slowly with a cheap stationary bike doing 30 minutes a day in front of the

T.V. Once I started, I was fine, because the exercise immediately helped the

pain and it made me feel confident. I started to have the desire to be fit

again. For me, the fear of things is always worse than the thing itself (I

had the same problem at the dentist yesterday). Doing the exercise instead

of worrying about it was all it took for me to get back into exercise.

with school and everything. A rest can do you good, and you all

worked so hard a WTC that no-one would blame you for taking a rest

My biggest excuse was that I didn't have enough time because of work. I now

work different hours and have to get up at 6 during the week...except on

Wednesday's....thats my late day. Sooooo...I exercise before going to work

on that day...then I have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to exercise...works

out great for me. My other excuse was that I was always tired but once I

stopped smoking, changed my way of eating, and got on vitamins...I fixed that

problem too :)

Believe me you're winning the battle with those attitudes, it's been

very obvious from your posts, and I'll remind you as often as you

need it. As Tawni sasy 'believe in yourselves'

I just wanted to jump in here and agree with Jill! You have grown

and changed before our eyes this past year, and I am so proud of

you :) I know it's frustrating to feel like you have gotten to a

certain point, and now nothing seems to be changing! Hang in there!

I have no doubt that you will ultimately reach your goals and the

reason is that you are in this for the long haul! Here's the

difference...the old would have said " Ok, since I haven't seen

any changes I'm going to restrict myself to 1000 calories a day and

I'm going to exercise every day for an hour " or something like that!

The new says " Although my eating hasn't been the best lately,

I have still been exercising throughout it all " ! You haven't gained

any weight back because you are gaining control over the

sabatoging " all or nothing " attitude and you aren't resorting to

extreme and damaging behavior! This is a journey (a life

journey...not just a year or two journey) and becuase of that, there

is no end! So, it doesn't matter if you hit a plateau here or there,

cause this time, it's not something that you're going to " quit " .

You're not on a " diet " that you will have to start over, you're not

doing something you hate just so you can lose weight! And, so you

will keep right on doing what you have been doing...sometimes you'll

do things that will get you closer to your goals, sometimes you'll do

things that will take you away from your goals....but through it

all...you are learning about yourself and you are realizing what is

important to you! And it's not that you weigh a certain weight or

look a certain way...it's that you are an incredible, beautiful,

wonderful person who is already a success just because of who she

is :) Ok, I'm rambling...but I just wanted you to know how proud I am

of how far you have come and of where you are now :)

My biggest excuse for not working out was kinda simple - my parents

never worked out. Most of the time we pick up our parent's habits

whether they're good or bad. Another excuse was that I could go on a

diet and lose the weight, although it would never permanently stay

off. One of my obstacles was the idea of focusing on how I looked,

not so much how I felt. Since starting Tae-Bo, I have learned so

much more about " fitness " and understanding that it's about more than

being skinny and how you look. I did exercise on and off later in my

life, but it never lasted because I was always focusing on the

outside.

This last time that I gained weight, I was the heaviest I'd ever been

in my life. I felt sluggish on the inside and my self-esteem was at

the lowest because I didn't like how I felt or looked. I did

originally start Tae-Bo to lose weight. After about 5 months of no

weight loss at all, I still kept with it because I loved the way that

I felt. I had never had so much inner-peace and it was a different

feeling that I have never experienced before. Even though I hadn't

lost a pound, my body was toning all over. After that 5 month mark

where I wasn't losing weight, I went to the Taebo.com message board

to find out why and that's where I found the secret to the successes

I've had with Tae-Bo. The main focus I have now is to have fun with

the workouts. The inches/pounds lost are just a side-benefit of it!

My progress has been slow and steady but overall I feel great!

I found Tae-Bo almost 2 years ago and I'm still going strong! I

would've never dreamed I'd still be doing it after all this time.

WOW SHANNON,

You have such a way with words!! Does it take you seconds to whip up

a reply or do you have to think about it a little? You seem to be

such a natural at saying exactly what everybody needs to hear :-)

When you do start teaching Tae-bo, you are going to be one heck

of an instructor!!!

I have been copying and pasting messages that have been wrote here

and forwarding them to a friend who recently began her tae-bo

journey. She enjoys them just as much as I do :) Thank you

Everybody!!

I'm thinking that someone who has had more physical results is so

keyed into the changes, that they may take it for granted that it's

easy to take off weight. I hope I haven't offended anyone by this

statement and it's not mean to be mean-spirited. I'm looking at it

from the other side of the coin just as Barb is. We've been

exercising consistently and have had slow results but yet we just

keep doing it.

I keep exercising consistently because I believe that one day the

changes will really kick in. We are individuals and we lose at

different rates. I just figure my system is very stubborn and one

day it'll wake up and get with the program! I've tried forcing it

off with WW and that didn't work. I don't want to say I've given up,

but I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and know that slow is

the way to go for me.

Hey Barb - that's 2 questions - why I tried Tae-Bo in the first place.

I thought about what grabbed my attention to Tae-Bo and the thing

that sold me was the connection to marital arts. I've always been

fascinated by martial arts and it's been around for years and years.

So you know it is the right way to go, not just for the physical, but

the spiritual and mental aspects as well. I've done other workouts

but nothing has made me feel like I do from Tae-Bo.

LOL...thank you :) Yes, I have to think a little with my replies! A

lot of it is just stuff that I have been through...seeing myself in

someone else's post! I didn't always think like this....so it's been

an interesting journey for me and I've learned a lot about myself

along the way! I'm just glad that what I have to say can actually

help others :)

Barb,

There are tons of reasons people quit Tae-Bo (or any other form of

exercise) regardless of whether or not they have seen results! I

think a big reason people quit is because they don't make the

connection....they don't focus on the inside and the changes that are

taking place. And if you don't have that....it doesn't matter if you

lose 100 lbs...you're still going to be dissatisfied, you're still

going to quit! There are also so many emotions, feelings, outside

factors that sometimes get in the way. Just because you " want " to do

something, doesn't always mean that you actually get around

to " doing " it! Even with

all the incredible results that I've had...both physical and mental,

there are still days when I don't want to workout....there are still

times when I lose my motivation! How is that possible? I don't

know, but it happens! Luckily, for me....I've learned enough about

myself on this journey to realize that quitting isn't an option for

me. It's about my health now, about how I feel inside, about the

strength that Tae-Bo gives me. But, it's easy to lose that focus.

It's easy to not do a workout one day, and then the next and then a

week and before you know it a month has gone by...you're feeling like

a failure, you're depressed, you're thinking " why in the world did I

quit " . It happens.....I'd venture to say it happens to almost

everyone at some point in time! I guess because sometimes we let the

negative talk in our heads get the best of us.....instead of focusing

on how good we feel, we can only hear " why are you even trying

this...you know you're just going to fail again " or " look at how

pathetic you are...you can't even get through 10 minutes of this tape

without stopping " or " you're always going to be overweight, you might

as well quit now and save yourself the frustration " . It's hard to

keep yourself motivated, with or without physical results! We all do

the best we can! Sometimes that means we quit, even though we've

lost weight, toned up and look great. Sometimes we just don't do a

very good job of fighting the battle in our heads :) I don't doubt

the fact that I could quit tomorrow in an instant and be back here in

a year saying " what happened to me...why did I quit? " I hope that

doesn't happen because of how much I've grown and how much I've

learned and how much I love doing Tae-Bo, but I would never

underestimate the fact that it could very well happen, to me or to

anyone else out there!

who hopes this made a little bit of sense cause she's rambling just a

bit :)
