Guest guest
Guys, I came across some information yesterday which I am trying to sort out in my mind. Can you help me by checking the pupil size in your children. Most of the children seem to have dilated pupils. I am REALLY nterested in comparing the size in the children to those of the teenagers and adults who have had the ASD condition longer. I suspect constricted pupils but I would like to hear back from a LOT of you to see if there is a trend. So can you get back to me concerning the age of your child and the size of the eye pupils? Patience, I believe your son is in his early twenties. Can you tell me what his pupils look like? Just as important, I would like to know size of pupils in the mother. My pupil size, for example, is super small and been like that for years. If I can get some input, I have an interesting theory which ties up well with my interest in the endocrine system. :-))

Guest guest
Hi My son's pupils are hugely dilated and have been as long as I can remember. He is 4 and a half. Mine seem normal maybe a little constricted even? I have always wondered why his were so big all the time. He has been on GAPS diet for 19 months now and I'm very strict with it. Does this mean that something else is causing some kind of opioid reaction in him?> To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > Date: Thu, 2 Apr 2009 22:18:13 +0100> Subject: Re: Please check eye pupil size> > That's what I am looking into, where the opioids fit in......Opioids > constrict pupils. Guest guest
aged 11 has slightly larger than normal pupils. I have seen them much larger and also slightly different sizes (have forgotten what that indicates). Mine look pretty average. Guest guest
abnormal pupil dilation in autism is almost certainly linked to overactive inflammatory pathways. opioid systems are interwined - inseparable from - neuroendocrine and inflammatory chemokine systems (through calcium pathways), which are at the hart of " autism " (this is how/why LDN - an opioid blocker, works for autism and many other disorders with immune/inflammatory pathologies) there is a whole arm of science now called neuroimmunoendocrinology, opioid system is always in their picture one example http://www.jleukbio.org/cgi/content/full/78/6/1210 > > Dilated pupils means his body is surging with insulin. Guest guest
this makes sense to me becuase my son is 9 has asd upto last year his pupils where huge like a puppies, but for the last year his pupils have been small, but he has struggled since last year, lots of yeast/bad bacteria, not sticking to any diet and i strongly suspect gut inflamation, lots of gut issuses enough to halt his biomed program just thought i would share melissa easthope Subject: Re: Please check eye pupil sizeTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 10:19 AM abnormal pupil dilation in autism is almost certainly linked tooveractive inflammatory pathways.opioid systems are interwined - inseparable from - neuroendocrine andinflammatory chemokine systems (through calcium pathways), which are atthe hart of "autism"(this is how/why LDN - an opioid blocker, works for autism and manyother disorders with immune/inflammatory pathologies)there is a whole arm of science now called neuroimmunoendocrin ology, opioid system is always in their pictureone example http://www.jleukbio .org/cgi/ content/full/ 78/6/1210>> Dilated pupils means his body is surging with insulin. Guest guest
I wanted to add this other observation from the researcher on PTSD. That is that to cope with the stress, the body releases opioids. So LDN would be the thing to counteract that. The question is 'If the body is releasing opioids naturally, it may be a protective measure. Do we really want to counteract this before we know why the body is doing this?' JULIE GRIFFITHS schrieb: > Agree to all that. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to be late replying. As far as I can recall, 's pupils were normal sized as a child and up to about late adolescence when they became large a lot of the time (from about 18 to 22 years). Now, a month short of 25 they are normal sized again most of the time, though occasionally they become large. I always equate large with bad. Mine are, I think, normal sized. HTH Patience Subject: Please check eye pupil sizeTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Thursday, 2 April, 2009, 9:40 AMGuys, I came across some information yesterday which I am trying to sort out in my mind. :-)) ------------------------------------ DISCLAIMER No information contained in this post is to be construed as medical advice. Guest guest
Eddie used to have dilated pupils but they are normal now. Eddie used to be extremely sensitive to artificial lighting. In my 20s (when I was ill with CFS) my dilated pupils were remarked upon. I think my pupils are still slightly over dilated because I am still a little light sensitive (though quite a bit improved). I like low lighting in the evening and lower the computer screen brightness to 0 (and it has a polarising filter on). We also notice when we turn in that I can still see in next to no light.
