He had reflux when he is younger, not so much now, although he is a very picky eater, so we don't get to see if the reflux is still there with the two food items he eats! I am not sure if he should go through this procedure, Is this worth doing, what can we expect from the results, I don't want to put him through anything unnecessary. Guest guest
It will be an outpatient admission with no prior clearout/prep (other than nil by mouth on the day), is that right? The main risk would be the anaesthesia but if it's been recommended, then it's probably needed to ascertain if there is any damage to the tissues. They will see the extent of scarring, inflammation, if there is any constricture, etc going on (long term untreated reflux can cause scarring and constricture in the esophagus). It's a worthwhile procedure on a kids whose diet is so severely restricted as reflux may significantly contribute to his food aversions. What are your specific concerns? Maybe someone can address them. Darla 2009/2/20 jamesboydr Hi, is booked in to have this procedure with Dr Fell. And yes its on the day from afternoon to sometime in the evening. But i am thinking of doing 3d scan first and then if they find something yes endoscopy. x > > It will be an outpatient admission with no prior clearout/prep (other than > nil by mouth on the day), is that right? Guest guest
Hi , sorry to write only now but wanted to say that our son had an endoscopy last summer with dr. Fell. Up till the endoscopy Nicolas will start crying day and night all of a sudden while doing things that he liked and for us it got clear that he was in pain. He is non-verbal so it was very difficult to know exactly where the pain was coming from. We decided to do the endoscopy and it showed that he has acid reflux. He has been on medication since for it and although I don't like medicines I can say he is a much much happier boy, it was an amazing change. What I wanted to say is that although endoscopy is a little bit invasive (Nicolas was quite poor for a couple of days following it) at least you get to know exactly what's happening and then it can be addressed. We found Dr Fell to be very good and very sensible in his approach. Guest guest
Dear Theresa Good Luck with your decision, it can be difficult to know what to do for the best sometimes really. My daughter has been scoped twice (colonoscopy and endoscopy) once in Aberdeen aged 4 and once in New York aged 9 (2.5 years ago). Both times she was fine before and afterwards. It was only after getting a diagnosis of colitis and appropriate medication that she has moved forward with biomed. We have been using dietary interventions/appropraite supps/testing since her diagnosis of ASD at 3. Lotsa Luck Caroline xx
