LJ,

My son had trouble with his eyes at that age as well. The regular

ophthalmologists weren't able to figure it out for three more years because

they were checking for standard sight problems. What Tyler ended up having

was a tracking problem, where and various fixed points, one eye would

temporarily stop tracking with the other. In some directions, one eye would

actually spasm off to another location before going back to its original

location, but they didn't catch it!!! Yet, during standard eye testing, they

just have you following a certain path, looking at lines without following

them, saying when the merge, etc. It gave him headaches, made tracking and

spatial issues difficult, and really played havoc on his coordination. He

was bright, so he saw that the other kids weren't having trouble, so it was

majorly frustrating to him. We finally saw an eye specialist when he was

being evaluate for his " Asperger's symptoms " at age 9. They were the ones

that first noticed it and told us where to go for an eye/sight exam. It was

finally addressed through occupational therapy, and it made all the

difference in the world!!!

Good luck!

Subject: newbie

Hi all,

I have joined in on some other groups but have been looking for one

with parents of children with Aspergers. My son is 6 and has a

diagnosis of aspergers. He is in a mainstream 1st grade and has been

doing well, until about 3 weeks ago. His behavior has completely

disintegrated. His sensory issues seem completely out of control

without any changes in diet, etc. He is complaining of his eyes

being messed up, but the opthamologist said his eyes show no

problems. Any ideas?

Thank you!

LJ

Thank you so much for your response. We just went to the Opthamologist and that

is what we were told! I feel like I am constantly fighting with my doctors to

tell them what we need to do based on what I learn from these valuable groups!

I am so glad that I found this and am going to share this information with my

doctor!
