Guest guest
Sheryl, and others, Thanks for all your support about 's 1st grade struggles. Things are a bit better, at least I feel the attitude of the teachers/principal is a bit better. We are in the process now of a full re-evaluation, to begin a new IEP. They will be doing OT/PT/SLP testing as well as academic testing over the next couple of weeks (I refused another IQ test, as they did one just 18 months ago) and then we will have a meeting where I get all the results. After that, we will schedule an IEP time. My greatest relief comes from getting a "friend-of-a-friend" who works for DDD to start coming to all meetings with me. 's case worker doesn’t know that much about inclusion and the law, so was not at all offended when I asked if she'd mind if this other woman took on that role at these meetings. I have already had 2 great phone conversations with her (Pam, is her name) and we will meet in person at least once before the IEP meeting to hammer out ideas for goals and accommodations etc. Sheryl, I would love to be able to contact your friend whose passion is special ed. law and inclusion. I think it will give me comfort and (internal) power to speak to her before I have to meet with the team again and hear them say that an aide can't happen (in their opinion. . .) It's late and I'm tired, so I won't post more now, but I wanted to thank everyone for their responses. It helped to hear all the stories of where other kids are in 1st grade, and what is working for them. Casey
