Guest guest
Because I discussed this here I thought I would share that the 2 birth centers affiliated with my hospital system are registering with Baby Friendly USA as a result of the information shared during my presentation! There was a lot of discussion regarding the expense of the accreditation, which is a concern I share myself. And the OB Director personally offered to give me $1000 if I could persuade all of the providers to comply with the mandatory education requirement (I checked, and yes that made it into the meeting minutes)! I told him, "You're on!". Lots of hospitals have accomplished this and I am sure they have characters amongst their provider group just like us, I know we can do it. I've already got the modules in mind... It was a great opportunity as the entire OB leadership team was there to hear the presentation and discuss the implications. Personally, I thought it was a huge success because as I told my manager, I didn't hear anyone say NO! We actually have a very strong foundation to expand from with a strong, evidence based breastfeeding policy and a positive cultural environment amongst the staff, meaning I don't have the chronic obstacles I hear so many LC's describing related to the RN's resistance to evidence based breastfeeding policies and related education. To say the least I was satisfied! To have an hour to present this information to the entire OB Leadership team was an accomplishment in itself.
