Jen,

How long have you been doing the basic tape? Have you gone over the

instructional tape numerous times? When you are doing your basic tape, is it

starting to feel less challenging or do you feel like you could go on longer?

If so, you might be ready for the advanced tape! I suggest you get one and

try it out. Remember that you will have to work up to the speed of those

tapes. Go at your own pace and do as much as you can do. Everyday you will

see improvements and be able to do more and more. Make sure to modify any

moves that are too fast or uncomfortable. I really love AL 4 and 6. 6 is my

current favorite. It doesn't have any floorwork (neither does 4). I don't

have many basic tapes so I can't be much help there. I think I liked BL2 and

4. I didn't really care for 10, but that tape would be good for someone just

starting out. Good luck!

You need to switch back and forth from the 7 minute

workout and the basic and when you can do that with a

breeze switch to a advanced.

Jen,

As far as recommendations for tapes go, check out Amyn's site for

reviews of most of the tapes. That address is:

http://www.geocities.com/taebofans

Do you have the original 4-pack of tapes, including the

instructional, 8 minute, basic and advanced tapes? If you do, here

are some suggestions on how to work yourself up to the advanced

tapes. First, you could add the 8 minute workout onto the end of the

basic tape...so that you are getting more like a 45 minutes workout!

If some of the moves in the 8 minute workout are too fast for you, do

them in half time! You don't have to keep up with the people on the

tapes to get a good workout! I know that's a really hard thing to

get in your head because we naturally want to keep up with the speed

of the tapes. But, the beauty of Tae-Bo is that if you have proper

form and are using lots of intensity..you can get just as much from

doing the tape at a slower speed! Another way to work your way up to

the advanced tapes is to do 2 basic tapes back to back! That way you

are still getting a 60 minute workout, but at a slower pace than the

advanced. Before you start, fast forward the tape you are going to

use 2nd to right past the stretches. Do the first workout to right

before the cool down, pop in the other tape and do that workout, then

do the cool downs from both tapes! I used to do that on my basic

days and it's a GREAT workout :) Another thing you can do (although,

I'm sure this one won't be as appealing to you since you seem to

share my hatred of floorwork...lol) is to do a basic tape and the

floorwork from the studio advanced tape!

As far as which tapes I would recommend to you personally...if you

can afford the new-live 4 pack, I would get that! The instructional

in the Live set is phenomenal! It's an hour long and it really shows

the proper technique to use. The basic workout is a great

workout....a little tougher than most of the other basic workouts!

Look around at Target and Wal-Mart because I believe both of those

stores just started selling the Live 4-pack and you might be able to

get them on sale! As far as my personal favorites....I really have a

hard time picking favorites because I like them all differently on

any given day...LOL! For Basic tapes, I really like BL1, BL2, BL6

and BL10. I'm in BL1 and Patty and Sandie are in BL10! For Advanced

tapes, if you want to try one, I'd suggest AL4! It's a great tape

and it's at a reasonable pace and it's a lot of fun! Just remember,

that as you start doing the advanced tapes...you can go at your own

pace! You know your body and you have to be aware of what you

can/can't do! Please don't feel like you have to jump right in and

be able to keep up with everyone on the tapes! It's ok to stop and

walk it out, press pause and walk around the house until you catch

your breath, do things in half time if you find you are sacrificing

form for speed, etc! There are ways you can make the workout yours!

So, don't be afraid to try the advanced and don't feel like a failure

if you don't make it the whole way through on the first try :) We'll

be here for you to help you along and if you get discouraged, we'll

set you straight...LOL!

If you want an easier but FUN advanced tape I would suggest AL4. For a little

bit more of a challenge the 1998 copyright version of Advanced Live 2(you can

watch e-bay for it) is so much fun!

<< Hi everyone-

I'm currently taking votes, opinions, and suggestions on which new

Tae Bo tape to buy. I have definitely outgrown the studio basic and

need something more challenging. I do have BL7 which still gets my

heart pumping...but I like more variety! I feel that I'm probably

ready to handle another BL tape of one of the " easier " AL tapes.

Though I must admit I'm a little scared of trying the AL tapes.

Probably because even the mention of 'floor work' just brings back

too many horrifying memories of my days doing those horrible

monotonous weight/resistance training tapes like the Firm, Buns and

Abs of Steel, etc.

So far BL5 is looking good just because Lucie is in it, but I want to

hear all your opinions on this matter. And, please, please I need

some serious encouragement from you guys telling me that I *CAN*

tackle an advanced tape

Thanks for all your help,

Hey -

AL4 is definitely winning hands down in the " which advanced tape

should I buy? " question. :) Right now my plans are to do my next 21DC

using the basic tapes I already have plus tacking on the new 8

minute live tape. After that, I will get BL5 and use that for my

next 21DC....AND...then finally as a gift to myself for finishing

THAT 21DC, I will buy AL4. And, in the meantime, if I feel like

venturing into advanced land, I do have the advanced tape from the

new live 4 set. Maybe I'll get up the gumption to try it once or

twice before then. I hope this convoluted plan makes sense to

someone out there! :-)

Who definitely plans on getting BL5 and then AL4 :-)

Jen,

That's a great reward for yourself :) I'm in both the basic and

advanced tapes that are in the Live 4 pack! In the basic tape, I'm

in the 3rd or 4th row all the way to the left of the screen (as you

look at the tv), next to the riser. I have black workout pants with

a gray stripe and a matching black workout top that shows a little of

my stomach and my hair is in a ponytail! They show a close up of me

doing the one arm speed bags and also at the end during the balance

move. In the advanced tape, I'm in the back towards the right

(looking at the tv), in front of the back riser. I have a big yellow

Tae-Bo t-shirt that's cut off at the waist and black workut pants and

again my hair is in a ponytail. They show me hitting 's hands

and he's trying to get me to count, but I have no idea what he's

saying until he turns and starts talking to the camera, at which

point I start counting...LOL!

Both of those workouts are excellent! Be warned about the Advanced in

the Live 4-pack...it's got some tough floorwork...LOL! Enjoy your

workouts! You can really do a lot of different workouts by combining

the tapes in different ways to keep it interesting! I can't wait to

hear how you are progressing! And remember, listen to your body and

do what you can! Focus on the small achievements that you accomplish

each day....one more set of roundhouse kicks, holding your balance a

little longer, walking it out a little less, and especially pay

attention to the stuff going on inside of you...increased self

esteem, more confidence, feeling better about yourself! Those are

the things that are REALLY important :) Good luck!
