I have it and also like it, as far as I can tell it's very accurate Melitta

I have one. I like it very much, it does the job and does it accurately. It took a while to get used to it after using the BabyWeigh for so long.

There is no case for it, but it has built-in handles, so that has not been an issue for me.

Back to one of our favorite subjects…scales!

I have used less expensive tanitas but I am wondering if anyone here has specifically used the BD-815U tanita scale

http://www.tanita. com/en/bd- 815u/184- catId.520093718. html

If so, how does it compare to a BabyWeigh? Any other feedback on this scale?

Thanks.

Wow, that's great. The case they offered when I bought my scale was too small, but that's year-old info. Does anyone have the new case, and does it fit well?

thanks,

I bought this scale for our pediatric practice and it is used for general peds patients as well as lactation, including pre and post feed weights. It works great. I think we have had it over a year now with no problems.

If you click on “buy now” on the website I think it said $701. I think that is close to what we paid.

You have to click on the "Order now" button and it will show you the price. You don't actually have to order.

There is no case for it,

Can't we use one of the cases we already have? Won't it fit? Thanks Ann thinking of buying a Tanita again before having to sign rental contract with Medela again....

I am interested in purchasing a scale and have found a new Tanita pediatric

scale at a reasonable price. The information that the company provides says

that the graduation is 0.5oz (10grams). Wouldn't 10 grams be 0.35 ounces?

Also, is that accurate enough for pre and post feed weighs or should I look for

something else?

I appreciate the input,

You know I have worked with well over a thousand of moms

over the last 15 yrs. In that time I have found my scale to be quite

valuable and will not work without it.

I have babies who are gaining well and we do pre-post weighs

‘just for fun’ – the moms love it!

I have babies who are not gaining and the scale is great to

show us all what is happening intake wise. A couple situations I have

dealt with repeatedly where baby is not gaining weight well but the intakes are

surprising and are ONLY documented with a scale and pre-post weighs:

The 4 month old baby who nursed like crazy but was not

gaining well at all. Mom takes home a scale to do 48-72 hours of pre-post

weighs (she declined consult with me until after she had this information –

her choice not mine – I hadn’t even seen the baby yet!) This

little guy is taking in upwards of 34 ounces per 24 hours – clearly enough.

Mom brings me in. I see a baby with serious structural issues –

this kid is tight as hell from top to bottom – I mean he is RIGID and he

is SCRAWNY. Send him to therapy with my Pediatric Bowen Specialist.

I don’t hear from mom for a month. I make my calls – no response.

She shows up at my mommy group with this HUGE, FAT baby – who snuggles in

to me when she puts him in my arms. He is relaxed – calm and happy

and FAT! Did I say he was fat? He was adorable! My

theory: The muscle tension and structural issues were causing his body to

consume calories like crazy trying to move and get comfortable. Once

those muscles were released that large amount of milk fattened him up almost immediately.

I have seen this scenario several times over the past couple years.

Next scenario I have seen several times. Baby isn’t

gaining. Says she thinks her milk is in – breasts got swollen and

then calmed down after a couple days. Everyone hear baby gulping –

but no wets, no poops and weight gain. Do the consult – it all

looks good, feels good, sounds good. Scale: NOTHING. No

intake at all. Baby is one of those who makes it look good and sound good

but cannot get the milk – or is there milk? In some cases –

mom kept the scale for a couple days – did pre and post, and pumping (and

hand expression if I could get her to do it) and discovered she had no milk (or

very little). In others mom actually did have the milk but baby had a

structural issue that impaired the baby’s ability to transfer milk

successfully. Got the baby worked on and that improved.

I have so many situations where having my scale was

incredibly valuable that I will never work without one on a regular

basis. There are many times when it clearly doesn’t matter what

baby is getting because baby is gaining well and we are simply fine

tuning. But I also use it to track a baby’s weight gain – I do

not trust the Dr’s scales because I often find them to be out of balance

and not accurate. So moms come back to me for weight checks as needed –

same scale – same weight. I have had maybe a handful of moms have

issues with the weights but most are grateful for the information. I have

had a couple get ‘hooked’ on the scale – and have had to wean

them off. J But for the

most part I have very, very good results with moms and the information the

scale presents and gives us.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
