Thanks for all the welcomes. I did actually do the basic tape yesterday

after work and picking up the kids and as I sit here typing this, I just

finished the basic tape at 5:25 a.m.! Yup, I got up early today! Day 2 of

my 21 dc and on my way to day 3!!

> Way to go, Joan! You get extra credit for doing a tape that early

in the morning in my book.

Hello to all,

My name is and I am a newbie to the list. It was recommended to me because

I am trying to learn as much as I can and trying to figure out if I can afford

to start a PP.

I have been married for 23 years, have breastfeed my 4 children (18, 16,14,12)

for a total of 7 years (good grief), and a LLL Leader for 11. During those 11

years, our local breastfeeding coalition in conjunction with our local hospital

wanted to create a support center. The coalition hosted a CLC course in hopes

of the support center opening. I was able to attend the training because of a

scholarship and have been a CLC for 6 years. Unfortunately the hospital was all

about the all mighty dollar and wanted the support center to show a profit

within 3 years. Since we couldn't prove 100% that we would be able to, the

dream quickly ended.

When my youngest was in first grade, I decided to go back to work, subbing, for

which I have been doing for the last 7 years. Before children I was an

elementary teacher. About 2 years ago, I decided I was ready for something more

then subbing. That I was ready to work full time and really be able to use my

brain. I decided that what ever I was going to do I was going to have to invest

$ in education. Why not invest in something I am already passionate about.

So there it is. I past my IBCLC test this last Summer. My hope was to be the

LC at NAS, Lemoore, Hospital. They had started the process of becoming Baby

Friendly, I was going to just move right in....and.... the military person moved

and the process of becoming Baby Friendly has completely come to a halt. They

don't know for sure when " it " will start up again or who will be taking it over.

Now I am in the process of a job description that I have talked to a few people

about. We will see where that leads.

I thought in the mean time I could do private practice. There is definitely a

need here in Kings County, CA. The only IBCLC's here work for WIC or at the

hospital for medi-cal patients only. I constantly get referrals from both of

these ladies and need help on being about to get paid for my services.

I hope to learn much from all of your experiences. I look forward in reading

older posts.

Peace, Porter
