Guest guest
A new web-based system has become available…Random ABA, teach your child how to sit with their hands in their pockets (and other valuable life-skills)… This scares me; we have full access to wonderful ABA/VB therapists, and I get to learn first-hand – and I still don’t get it right. This model leaves entirely too much room for all kinds of issues like building on splinter skills, chaining mistakenly behaviors which should not go together, lack of data collection to understand if the methodology is working (leading to stress and frustration from both carer and child), and MANY other issues…I guess it is BAD to take our children to licensed physicians who use cutting-edge tools to help our children, but entirely acceptable to embark on a program of ABA without any professional oversight, training, or guidance beyond random web modules (for which we should happily pay money)… http://www.rethinkautism.com/ I think I will rethink using this website – and conclude it’s not a great idea… My $0.02…
