Guest guest
Legislative Update for 1/30/2010 First and foremost we would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who came to the public hearing on Thursday. A special thanks for those of you who testified (Representatives McConkey, and Wiley, Farrah, Donna, , Dr. Duke Lovetere, Dr. Tallman Ruhm, and Dr. Lanzara). We had over 75 people in attendance; a standing room only crowd. Unfortunately, this also meant that many of you who took the morning/day off or travelled a long distance etc. were not able to get into the hearing room to even listen to testimony, let alone have the opportunity to testify. We regret that the committee (even after receiving 40+ letters) did not make the other room available to us. However, you still have the opportunity to attend and testify at the reconvened session of the public hearing on Monday, February 8th at 1pm in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) room 205-207 (33 North State St. Concord NH). Action Updates: Public Hearing on 2/8/2010 • If you weren’t able to attend the first public hearing, please consider attending on Monday, February 8th at 1pm. The committee has reserved both rooms, so everyone who attends should be able to get a seat inside the room to listen to the testimony. As of right now, there are no hearings scheduled at 2pm in either room. • We will be meeting in the hallway outside of LOB room 205-207 before the hearing. We will again be providing stickers. This made a big visual impact on those in attendance and the committee. • We submitted the names of the people who had signed the petition as of 1/28/2010. If you haven’t signed the petition, please do so, as we will submit any additional names at the hearing on the 8th. ( http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/vacchoicenh/ ) • You are more than welcome to come to the hearing, sign in and leave when you need to. No one needs to stay for the entire hearing (~1 hour long) • If you had planned to give oral testimony on Thursday, but were not able to and cannot attend on the 8th, please be sure that you send it to us at VacChoiceNH@.... We can submit more written testimony on the 8th. • Written/oral testimony is easier than you think. Here are some ideas: o Adverse reaction/experience with a vaccine o How does the ‘One size fits all’ not fit for you & your family? o Why the current Religious exemption doesn’t work for you? o Do you want get some vaccines and not others? Would choose getting some over none if the CB exemption was available? o Negative experience with your pediatrician/finding a doctor to support your medical choices o Informed Consent and your right to make medical decisions for each vaccine o Have you moved here from one of the states that have a Conscientious Belief/Philosophical exemption? Has only having the religious exemption as an option restricted you? Feel that you have to sign it under duress? o Contract a illness that you/family member had been previously vaccinated against? o Have you been asked to sign the AAP’s “Refusal to Vaccinate” form? • Please e-mail us a copy of your written testimony, so that we can make the 21 copies needed to hand into the committee. If you are planning on providing oral testimony, please send us a copy for our records and bring 20 copies in with you for the committee. We can also print them for you if you ask in advance. VacChoiceNH@... For those NOT attending on the 8th and NOT submitting testimony: There is still plenty of time to contact your reps. You can find them by town or county here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/house/members/wml.aspx. We ask that you: • Call your representative and ask them for their support for HB 1555 an act adding an exemption from immunization for conscientious beliefs. o If they do not support HB 1555 or seem hesitant, please let us know as soon as possible. • Ask them to sign in at the hearing on Monday, February 8th at 1pm in LOB 205-207. • Give them the website address www.VacChoiceNH.org to access the amended bill. I have a link to the amended bill on the website’s home page. • If you choose to e-mail your rep, please attach a copy of the amended bill to your e-mail and copy us. DO NOT E-MAIL after Thursday, February 4th, as your rep may not get your e-mail on time. Please call. • Do the same for your senators. You can find them on the same page as your reps. Please be sure to address them as Senator (not Rep). Again, if you have ANY questions, need some help, want us to read over your testimony, etc, please do not hesitate to e-mail us. Thanks again for all of your support. and I cannot get this any further without everyone contributing towards this effort. ANY adult over the age of 18 can send a letter/make a phone call. EACH VOTER COUNTS (even if you are not registered to vote). Thanks!
