Guest guest
Hi, Everyone....I have tried for two days to go to the messages from the web site and haven't been able to. Anyone else having this problem. I have to wait till everything comes up as an e-mail digest. This was in Dear Annie today. Someone obviously needs some support and has no where to go to get it. Dear Annie: My mother has a very quick temper when it comes to my autistic twin brother, " Gabe. " She threatens to hit him with objects instead of the old-fashioned way, with her hand. She'll pick up a hanger and say she's going to hit him with it if he doesn't listen or finish a job completely, because he tends to be a little lazy sometimes and doesn't understand that he has chores to do around the house. I have told Mom she needs to go to an anger-management class or a support group for parents with autistic children, but she's stubborn and insists she doesn't need any of that. Then she gets mad at me. It also frustrates her because I'm in college and don't have time to do all the things she expects. Sometimes, homework keeps me up until midnight or later. Please help me out. -- Angry and Stressed Dear Angry: It sounds as if your house is filled with stressed and angry people. Caring for an autistic son can be difficult for any parent, and Mom is not handling it well. Even though she chooses not to ask for help, you can check out the available support groups and talk to someone. Please contact the Autism Society of America (autism-society.org) at 1-800-3AUTISM (1-). You also can discuss this with a counselor at your college.
