Staff from the Detroit Institute for Children told me at a resource fair

a few years ago that they just don't see autism in the inner city -- and

they pondered about the fact that a LOT of children aren't vaccinated

until they have to meet requirements for kindergarten (we have easy

exemptions in Michigan, but folks may not know about them).

Transportation to a clinic for vaccines can be a challenge for families,

and the DIC staff said it's really common for families to wait until

right before school starts and they see a big rush in August for

vaccinations.

Interesting that the Surgeon General comes to Detroit THIS week, as the

media is here to cover the NAIAS (North American International Auto

Show) before it opens to the public on Saturday.
