Hi, Everyone.....Pam and Mimi...welcome to the group. I'm Mom to

Gareth.....18 y/o with DS/autism/OCD. We live in Lititz, Pa. and have been on

this site

for over 6 years. It was a true blessing for us at the time knowing there

were other 'Gareths' out there. Take care, Everyone.

I was just not in the best of moods and didn't feel like dealing with well

meaning, but ignorant people. And when someone said the " oh, they're so loving

aren't they " line -- I responded with " yeah, but they drool a lot " , and I

said have a good day and walked away feeling really good.

Mimi,

wow! that is unbelievable that she actually said that. We should all write

a book about stupid things people have said to us. I hate the " R " word too.

It goes right through me.

Anyhow -- just got back from a two hour gluten free trip to the grocery

store - $190.00 later I still don't know what the h... I'm doing. I need a

gluten free hotline when I'm reading these labels. I may have some ingredient

questions for you experienced ones later -- right now it's tea time!

Patty,

That is cute... I know what you mean about sometimes just not being in the

mood for the " lines " . I had a lady in a grocery store once ask me (Lauryn was

only around 4 at the time) if the doctors knew " how retarded " she would be, and

that really set me off and I said " Not as retarded as you. " and walked away...

First, I HATE the " r " word, but I don't even think she was ignorant... I think

she was just plain stupid!

I know usually people mean well... but we are human too and just have those

kind of days.
