Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone here has tried it with success or what your story might be. Thank you for sharing. Marcy Here is a wee bit of my story. ; ) My son is 18 y/o has been dx with Down syndrome and autism at the age about 13 1/2 years old. Under no meds, is under some wonderful medical professionals care which was not like this when he was younger. During my desperate times for answers when all meds or Mega- vitamins, etc. have failed him when he was younger due to not having any medical professionals to assist or specialize in this area & of course me not knowing anything. I have turned to alternative treatments & interventions. I had decided to attend numerous Medical Autism Conferences, workshops, read books, etc. and especially one conference that had opened my eyes and cried all the way home on what I had learned, could relate with similar issues with my son. Boy, did it hurt me just knowing how much my son was unable to communicate his pain or discomfort, behavioral characteristics associated with bowel disturbance which he displayed. You could read one of the handouts here: http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org/0405-conf-akrigsman.htm I was ready for the changes for my son as it just hurt me too much on what might son was experiencing. I did not want to waste a single second. This is now finally working along finding the right medical professionals to work with him. Such a journey it has been and still a learning curve here, always being a detective. Celiac Disease has been ruled out with numerous of docs, only with lab work. According to what I had learn, tissues biopies reveal new variation of inflammatory bowel disease similar to Celiac. My son has made such dramatic improvement with the GF/CF diet and under various vitamins & supplements, compared to the way he was in the past it has been a Godsend! I do caution that not every child under the spectrum responds to such treatment. Part of another handout from this past weekend's Texas Autism Conference: What's So Special About Special Diets? Presented by Mika Bradford CN * The use of " Special Diets " in autism was anecdotal in the beginning but research is now changing that. * Medical diagnosis's that utilize restricted diets as the primary form of intervention include celiac disease and diabetes. The need and affects of dietary intervention being critical to the health of some individuals has already been substantiated. So much to share, do not want to overwhelm. I have this thing of going on as many of us here on the list know me when I share something. So for my son: Is Dietary and Vitamin Supplementation Necessary? YES !!!
