Guest guest
Hi, folks. My son will be attending the special day class at a local elementary school this fall. Previously, he's attended a special needs school in a different city. We've already observed the classroom will be going into, we've met the teacher and aides, and we've had our IEP meeting with the teacher and a school administrator. The school's initial plan has been that will share an aide with another little boy in the classroom. Now, over the last 3 months, has *finally* been receiving ABA therapy in our home, thanks to an ABA group opening up an office in our area (the first of its kind around here). He's been getting about 25-30 hours of therapy a week, and we've been able to document some nice progress. While I don't know if I've got the data to prove it yet, *I* think has made more progress in the last couple of months than he did in a year's time at his old school. So, of course, I would love to continue 's ABA therapy, but if he's spending the bulk of his day at school, that only leaves a few hours in the evening for ABA. I would like to ask the school to supply Gabe with ABA, maybe for 3 hours a day, while he's at school. A couple of Gabe's current ABA therapists do have the time to go to the school for therapy, but the school, of course, would have to pay them. Has anyone been successful in getting ABA therapy for their kids in the classroom? Were your kids included in the regular classroom, or were they in special day class? Was it a struggle to get the school to pay for ABA? Do you have any tips for me as I start getting some info and data together before I request an IEP meeting? Thanks so much in advance, Joni in CA (Humboldt county) and kids, incl. ,
