Once you get an MA card, you then choose an insurance company. We have Keystone Mercy. It covers all co-pays for meds (our family insurance AETNA pays most med stuff), scripts, and other items such as diapers (we don't get them anymore) and various types of equipment. However, you DO have to jump through many hoops to qualify...surprise surprise. Donna

Guest guest
Carol: No we aren't on the street, yet. =) It is just so frustrating. She has been on ACCESS since birth, Thank God. ACCESS is Pa. Medicaid. We also get reimbursed for my dh & her med. ins. premiums via HIPP. That is so we keep her insured through my dh's job and ACCESS picks up what his ins. doesn't, inc. copays. It helps. Liz Liz Re: Question about supplemental income In a message dated 8/19/2006 8:06:09 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, liz.desantis@... writes: Carol: Yes..my dh makes too much. Guest guest
She could get SSI if you as a family qualify until she is 18. At 18 she qualifies for SSI on her own. But she is qualaified for Medicaid based on her disability - isn't she? In PA, she can qualify for SSI based on her disability. SHe would then qualify for Medicaid even though the family is over income. Then she would be eligible for FSF - and three years only means she is on the list. I was also told it would be 3 years. After I called twice (once every six months) , Elie qualified for FSF. After 2 years of it, he qualified for PFDS funds (known as the capped waiver in PA). Don't give up!! Guest guest
Tori, Go to someone who knows about waivers. If your state includes parental income to determine eligibility then what you need is a medicaid waiver. You won't get SSI, nor will she qualify, (in your state) but you might qualify for one of the waiver programs. We have like ONE here in Oregon, the Childhood Intensive Behavior Waiver. Designed to help families who would send their kids to an institution otherwise. But that's the path you need to try and chase with a caseworker, I think/hope/imagine. Guest guest
Joan is partially right. In PA, once you qualify by disability for SSI, and get a DIS-qualifying letter from SSi based on income, you are then eligible for Access and MEdicaid thru a (in most counties) an HMO. In the SE part of PA, the best available(IMHO)for kids with disabilities is Keystone Mercy. The behavior mental health portion is handled by CCBH (I believe) in most of the counties in the SE. Once that papee cahse is over, then your support coordinator needs to do a PUNS which is a Priortization of Urgency of Needs document. This determines if you are eligible (does not determine if you GET) for Person Directed Family Support money, Community Support Waiver, or only Family Support money. the determination of eligiblity is based on what you tell them, document to them on the PUNS> It is VERY IMPORTANT that you tell them how very difficult it is to live with Tori. Detail some of the more horrific things you have dealt with. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the difficulty. Family support money is not Medicaid but comes out of the base funds that allow your county MH/MR to function. However, in most counties, you are not eligible for anything until you complete all the process for Mediciade. It is still subjective, but you can appeal all of this. Casey, the undersecretary of MH/MR is very interested in what makes the system not work for you. So tell him!!! Guest guest
Now it may be a matter of each state's determining how they determine eligiblity...but in VA SSI/medicaid has NOTHING to do with FAMILY income, it is all about your child's income...does your child receive any income his/her name. (is your child a child movie star, getting any residuals from those cute photo shoots, any support from an ex-spouse paid directly tho him/her?) If that is the case..then you may have difficulty...at which I would then look into setting up a living trust fund...so the funding goes into it and NOT into your child's pocket/bank statement. Also look at the possiblity of qualifying for Medicaid Early & Periodic Screening & Diagnostic Treatment Benefit www.cms.hhs.gov/MedicaidEarlyPeriodicScrn Donna ez ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today. I live in VA and they do go by Parent's income. When I was working it would fluxate depending on how much I made.
Guest guest
FEDERAL law says that SSI for an impaired person under the age of 18 must include family's income as part of the formula. However, after being qualified for SSI by reason of disability, but disqualified due to family income, one can then qualify for MEDICAIDE dependent on the disability and the state in which one lives. After age 18, only the direct income of the person applying is necessary. Thus the family could be millionaires but the person age 18 does not receive any money, holds no bank account - that person could receive SSI> Sara - Choose to make lemonade, not complain about the lemons. >From: dmartin336@... >Reply-To: >To: >Subject: Question about supplemental income >Date: Sun, 20 Aug 2006 23:24:11 -0400 > >Now it may be a matter of each state's determining how they determine >eligiblity...but in VA SSI/medicaid has NOTHING to do with FAMILY >income, it is all about your child's income...does your child receive >any income his/her name.
