Joan, tell us a little bit more about what type of program it is.

Pennsylvania came up with 5.

May be my 'puter, but that website doesn't come up.

Elie started his first day of last year of school yesterday. At 3PM they

called for a " transfer " meeting which is what they say is to be an IEP

meeting. Supposedly he had a good day. HE did eat cafeteria food and ate

in the cafeteria without meltdown.

Joan is right. Next year will be very scary since I have yet to find an

appropriate day program. Elie will not be going out to work nor working an

assembly line in a workshop - and not because I don't want it but because it

isn't suitable for him. He actually needs a guided day program similar to

good programs in the day care for elderly but not with the elderly - altho

HE might enjoy being with lots of g'mas.

Found one site in the whole state (GA) which has a program for 18021 for

supported employment. Not suitable both by age and because I know that my

kid would not meet the criteria for supported employment.

I guess if I want it, I will have to make it. LOOOONNNGGG SIGHHHHHHHH> Get

Sara,

This is a hard one and sure you have been busy in your new state

searching out what is available. So much depends on the agency and how

progressive they are in providing the services that are needed for the

individual. I have a friend who is 86 whose 45 yr old son attends an

adult day care center because she hasn’t found the agency that will

provide the services she wants for him. A lot has to do in that this

place is closer and she drives him there.

I will be watching to see what you find for Elie. Louise

I plugged in for IL for the fun of it and didn’t come up with anything

and I know there are numerous things out there in IL, even if the

particular agency doesn’t have any openings. Maybe the site isn’t up to

date. Louise

Thanks Louise. I count on you people with older than Elie family to guide

me on my hunt.

Right now Elie is sooooo happy in his new school. He even eats lunch in the

h/s cafeteria - of course junky fast food, but at least he isn't freaking

out.

I still like the idea of his working at the animal shelter, but at this

point that would mean me as well, and I can't see me doing that for a long

streetch of time. MEals on Wheels is available but again it means me and

him. I would really like to find something he would enjoy doing that can be

done without parents. Working on it - I haven't even begun to give up. And

certainly not for the next 20 years!!!! There will be something before

that.
