Guest guest
A few minutes ago a couple called me to say that their expected baby has Down syndrome and wondered if they should have an abortion. I didn't handle it very well. In speaking about Eleanor's birth I just got all emotional and teary and could not pull myself together very well. I did tell them about all the joy she brings but I also told them that it's not easy and that, frankly, I don't know what we would have done with the same information, if we had had it. Has this happened to you? What do you say? What do you do? MTB
Guest guest
I can only speek as the adoptive mother for Elie. His mother was not offered the option of amnio because she was below the recomended age. She has told me that knowing the pain (to her family) the birth of Elie would cause she would have had an abortion. As the now mother for Elie, I believe it must be an individual choice. For Elie's birth mother, in the situation that she was in, an abortion would have preserved the family. Giving Elie upo was the next best thing in her opinion. Again, that is just my feeling. Even loving my son and the contributions that he has made to our family - or even if he had made non- I believe that the right to choose is inherent with the right to breed. I know that this is not a popular opinion.
