Guest guest
I had an interesting thing happen to me too! A boy who sits 2 desks away from my son at his private autism school has a confirmed case of H1N1. The school sent home a letter only saying that they have a case of Type A influenza. Then it listed numerous symptoms includint vomiting, diahrrea, lack of energy, fever between 102-106, body aches, chills, dizziness, flushed face, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, stuffy, congested nose, and sweating. I know about the H1N1 diagnosis because the boy's aide told my son's aide. Doesn't the school have to disclose this info? So, anyway, my son has been having some symptoms so I decide to call Walgreens to see if their walk-in clinic can test for H1N1. They said no. I called our county health department. They said they don't test either, that you can only get tested from your own doctor or the hospital E/R. I called the E/R and spoke with a doctor and a nurse. They said that the state of Missouri is not testing for H1N1!!!! HUH??? I asked why and they said because the testing is extremely expensive. I said that is my insurance company's problem, not mine or theirs! They said they CAN test if the person meets certain criteria, but only if you really push for it! They suggested I go to www.cdc.gov for more info. I said, "Like I would trust anything on read on that!". They told me that H1N1 CAN be called Type A influenza, that it is just a mild seasonal flu like any other one. They said that a flu is ALWAYS an upper respiratory, never vomiting and diahrrea. That is a virus, but NOT the flu. They weren't concerned about the H1N1 at all. So if Missouri isn't testing, where is the media getting all of these numbers of confirmed cases??? Are doctors just diagnosing by observation and symptoms, just assuming that it is H1N1, not just the normal flu? Is there REALLY even a difference??? How can they tell? Are they just waiting to do testing during the autopsies of those who die from it? None of this makes any sense, but just proves that if the medical community isn't concerned about it, then it is just the media hyping the heck out of this! Regardless, no one in my family will be vaccinated for either flu or anything else now or anytime in the future! Oh, and I am sitting here watching "The Doctors" and I am getting sick listening to them hype and push for vaccine after vaccine. They keep quoting Merck! Like they care about anything other than the green stuff $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!! Lorinda

Are doctors just diagnosing by observation and symptoms, just assuming that it is H1N1, not just the normal flu? That is exactly what is happening And h1n1 is supposedly a type of Influenza A - yes it is all very confusing. They say it has never been seen in humans before but list it under Influenza A which is in humans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H1N1 Influenza A (H1N1) virus is a subtype of influenzavirus A and the most common cause of influenza (flu) in humans. Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans and cause a small fraction of all influenza-like illness and a large fraction of all seasonal influenza. H1N1 strains caused roughly half of all human flu infections in 2006. [1] Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs (swine influenza) and in birds (avian influenza). If the above makes sense to you, you ae doing better than me Is there REALLY even a difference??? How can they tell? Are they just waiting to do testing during the autopsies of those who die from it? They may simply be messengers between the cells Sheri
Guest guest
It's not just MO. The CDC is only paying for testing of " clusters. " So, you can be tested and have it sent to the state, but it's possible that nothing is done with it. We took our son to the ED for tesing and they wouldn'd do it, called it pertussis (dx of URI). Same thing w/one of my husband's co-workers. No, no testing was done.
