Guest guest
<<So my question is, is any one's child who is on Lexapro, putting on more weight compared to other meds? Also, if they've been on Prozac and swithed to lexapro did it have the same effect. >> Hi, Everyone.......Your DH sounds like mine... " experimenting " with meds. A psychiatrist once told me that each med that is out there (Luvox, Prozac, Risperdal, etc.) only works on 10-15% of the population. That is why there are so many meds and that is why you have to keep changing to find the one that is right. I have to change Gareth's SSRI drugs every 9-12 months because they just stop working and he can not tolerate the increase dosages. That acceptance came from years of trial and errors. Currently he alternates 3 SSRI drugs for his OCD/anxiety issues.....Prozac (least effective, Luvox (best for him), and Lexapro....second best. The Lexapro was good but increased his stuttering (which is already bad) and increased his sensitivity to lights. Marjorie's DH...... These meds are chemicals that are trying to fix a chemical imbalance in the brain. Not every person has the same chemical imbalance. We are not trying to turn our kids into zombies!!! Gareth is the same happy, go lucky kid he was before the autism turned him into a raging, angry, OCD, monster tornado. We just want the ability to connect with them in order to get some positive behavioral changes. If Charlie was a diabetic, would you deny him his insulin? If he was asthmatic, would you deny him an inhaler? Modern medicine knows that there are chemical imbalances in the brain.....we're just trying to help our kids. Wouldn't you feel better sitting down with Charlie at night and engaging him in a game, book or puzzle instead of cleaning up from his latest storm through the house or fixing something he broke? Two months on the right meds is all you need to see a change. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
