Hi Sara,

I would say that you are a moving pro. I have always lived int the same house

my entire married life. I would have not clue how to pack. I feel so badly for

Elie and you too. Zeb is my velcro kid for the most part and that can make me

crazy at times. I hope he can acclimate soon so you can enjoy your new house.

Today I have been lo0cking myself in the bathroom to get away from ELie.

And I so know he is missing his mentors from PHL. But there is no way to

explain that shortly he will have new friendes and shortly he won't care,

because he really has no concept beyond the pain of the loss right now. We

have been calling every few days, trying to wean him, but I think the

calling is worse. He really thinks that they will be here to visit soon

when what they are saying is that they hope to visit sometime.

Life will go on, it is just s little depressing right now.

Of course the weather is GREAT!! Cool and clear -no a/c now for 2 days and

no need.

I did get my fridge painted black and DH and I got it up 3 stairs and iinto

the kitchen without killing each other - altho it is a good thing I don't

know where super sharp objects are right now.....

He set up my computer table, but refuses to move the wires so I am standing

to write you guys- I will not wait for hinm to get around to this.

Another week and maybe we will have enough unpacked to start throwing out

all the TOO MUCH we moved!

Oh Sara,

I completely know your pain! When we moved here, to Virginia, it was our 19th

move in 15 years of marriage, and our 9th state I think - I'm not even 40 yet!!!

UGH!

I'm sorry that Elie is having such a tough time with the move and missing his

friends. Could you or have you put together a book with photos you have of

those friends? (like you have nothing better to do!) But it might help him, and

occupy him! LOL!

I hope you are loving your house - and yes, throw away anything that doesn't

bring a smile to your face!

Happy unpacking and hang in there,

Jayne

Can I begin with DH?????? He never throws anything out. I have to sneak

past him. In the midst of this chaos, he wants me to separate cans and

paper!!!!! I will be crazed. I may even consider getting my nursing

license and going to work just to get away from both of them!!!!!!

I want to throw out lots of things. He wants to " see what he needs " . I

want to throw it away, he wants to have ANOTher YARD SALE. I want an empty

clean house, he wants another file cabinet.

And now he wants to know what and if I am making dinner. Cold beans and

toast!!!

Hi Sara,

Vent away, dh doesn't throw anything away either. I still have a cracked

kiddie pool that i dragged to the trash more times than I care to count. The

kiddie pool was my 26 yr old daughters. I am praying that Elie likes his new

school.

Bob just commented " I don't know where all this stuff is going to go - this

house is really small!!!!

No joke - we went from 3300 plus basement and garages to 1400 and a

basement.

Does any human really need 10 cookie sheets??? And 4 old fridge shelfs to

cool bread and rolls????

We also moved 2 fridges and a freezer, but at least I can justify those.

There are only 3 of us - do we need 2 sets of service for 8???\ Of course

we only have 3 wineglasses - he keeps breaking those. I think I need a wine

glass that holds about 15 oz.

Maybe I can find a camp for Bob - too bad he isn't still in the reserves!!!!

We lived in Norfolk outside of Gate 4 for 8 years (the last 8 years).

Before we went overseas, we lived in 3 different houses in Norfolk. That

means 16 years in NORFOLK!!!!! That is enough of VA for me.

I have you beat, I was born and raised in VA, :-) being a military brat I

have had the pleasure of living in many different places and to be honest,

coming back home to VA is the most comforting feeling. :-) I have found that

no

matter where you live there will be things you like and dislike and nothing

feels so good as to go home again. :-)

so you lived here in the early to mid 60s? We came back from overseas in

1963 and we had to be debriefed on how to " act " because of the

segregtion/integration situation. I was 12 years old at the time and being

military family

the schools we attended on post were not segregated so this was not different

to us. Geez just remembering that makes me feel old. lol

Didn't dislike the PLACE Virginia - and we first arrived right after schools

reopened after segregation, integration. But NO services available to Elie

except 2 hours a week respite. School services after elementary school were

meager.

In Va Beach, however, there were many more options. We just didn't live

there.

No, we came to Norfolk in 1973. Schools were opened and integrated by court

order with cross city bussing to integrate. We first had the kids in a base

elementary but it was sooooo baaaaddd ducationally, that we moved out of

base housing to Colonial Place which was a newly integrated housing area.

Our older kids walked to a 345 school that was integrated by the

neighborhood, but the younger kids rode a bus cross city to integrate a

major white school (my kids are white) for K,1,2,. It was very funny.

Since the court order was by neighborhood, not by race, we had some funny

situations when we, the people decided to create de facto integration by

housing.
