Guest guest
We have dogs, they are pretty smart when it comes to MontyMan....they simply stay out of reach. We have a cat that thinks it's fun being picked up by his tail and slung, because he STILL walks over and sit's down next to Monty.....go figure! MontyMan also likes to shove his finger up the horses nose.....just to watch her jerk her head straight up. She is smarter than the cat. I understand your caution and second it. Trisha loves animals and we thought oh a kitten would be great, WRONG, she loved it almost to death so we gave the kitten to a good home for it's own protection. She wasn't being mean to it, she just didn't understand how hard she was hugging it. I think the animals have a natural instinct that our kids are not trying to be mean. I can't speak for anyone else but for us I thought it was more humane to give the cat to someone who could love it with a little less enthusiasm. :-) Carol Trishasmom She isn't Typical, She's Trisha! Guest guest
We have one cat who is 11. Hannah loves her and to show it she will lick the cat. Maybe she's modeling the cat's behavior. It's when she starts licking the cat's tail that I get a little nervous. And yes, when Hannah's got a cold, if the cat is handy, she will use her as a Kleenex! a (Hannah 9)

Guest guest
Hi, We have 2 cats currently. One is 4 (skeeter) the other is 9 months old, is fine with the 4 year old, and he was fine with our 8 yr. old cat, but the kitten (scout) loves and torments him he always wants to be sitting next to him, he rubs himselrf on , and hates it, there have been times when kind of well tosses him away.............and the kitten keeps coming back for more, isn't hurting him, but i worry that he will one day......Viola
Guest guest
We have a Chocolate Lab and Tori loved to wrestle with him, jump on his, pull his tail-yet he was so tolerant. He would look up at me like " Mom-Help me! " and I would just tell him to get up. He will be 10 in Oct. Unfortunately, where we live now we couldn't keep Murph, so my oldest daughter has him. =( We do have an 11 y.o. cat (I inherited thru marriage) and Tori torments the hell out of him. She will belt him any chance she gets. She pulls his paws, tail, whiskers...etc. and he will swat at her. She has gotten scratched and bitten SO many times, but does she give up...Heck No!!! Guest guest
nathan loves our pets and they are fine with him, we have two dogs, a cat, several fish and a turtle--now he doesnt do much with the turtle as " jaws " belongs to nicholas, lol, and he likes to help feed the fish, and occasionally puts little toys or coins in the tank, lol. He occasionally pets our over attention seeking cat and the cat loves to get nathan when he is dangling his strings, lol, its kinda funny to watch. AS for " miss B " or older female viszla mix he pets her and plays fetch with her as she will not let anyone just sit there outside, lol, and " duke " our youngest-- male viszla he LOVES nathan its soo cute he will constanly try to lay in his lap put his face in nathan's so nthan will pet him and share bites of food with him , as nathan always gives him something off his plate, lol, and i will catch him often climbing under the covers with nathan in bed so i have to shew him to his box, he ofcourse sulks in his pouty dog face but goes, as soon as nathan comes home duke is all over him and nathan has to say enough box duky, or meemoo, (his nick name) its soo funny duke makes him talk as he wont stop until nathan verbally puts an end to it, lol. But i do agree i saw the clip on the newsthe other night, and im glad for that boy it was such a help, one shouldnt just go out and buy a dog thinking going to get same results. shawna --------------------------------- Ring'em or ping'em. Guest guest
We have a 4 y/o golden retriever, who fits wonderfully in our family - especially with Dylan. Dylan has never been too overly " loving " to anyone, including the dog - which is good that he doesn't hug and hang on him a lot. He does, however, use him as a patient with his dr. kit....the dog happily has his ears checked & blood pressure taken. Dylan also shows his books to the dog & colors him pictures. He just always makes sure the dog " looks " at it...never just lays it there but kind of " yells " at the dog until his snout touches whatever it is he's trying to show him. I don't know if Copper, our dog is so patient by nature or if he's just used to Dylan since Dylan was 7 when we got him. We are very lucky though...and we got a golden because we knew their temperments were generally better....but you definetly have to be careful when choosing a pet, with or without kids with special needs. They take a lot of work. My sister is " foster " home for abused / homeless dogs & I see so many people thinking that this cute little dog would be just super for them....and then it ends up in the shelter or at a foster house like my sisters.
