Today my husband went to file for Social Security as he is now old enough.

Imagine our shock when we found out that this will change our son's status.

Our son will not get more money but it will come from 2 different funding

streams, partially from his Dad's benefit and partially from his SSI. The

maybe bad part is that Elie will now have to get Medicare. As I understand

it, he will now have to pay $88/month for MEdicare. And we will still carry

him on our military insurance. So what is the benefit???

I see no benefit at this point. Maybe one of the wise people out there can

tell me???

I have heard that NY state senator Schumer is working on this. I would

suggest contacting his office

Brigid Sullivan

Sara,

I can tell you what it means hospital wise..... if you have medicare part a

and go into a hospital or facility and are receiving skilled therapy services or

nursing skilled care ie..iv therapy, have two sores that are stage 2's or above,

have behavior changes, med changes recent falls, etc then you have 100 days.

medicare pays 100 percent the first 20 days and day 21-100 medicare covers

80percent and you or secondary insurance is pays other 20 percent. some

secondaries are great....lots suck. after day 100 if you still need therapeutic

services part b of medicare kicks in and that pays for therapy but not room,

board, or meds. that is private pay or medicaid..... We have some residents at

work that have medicare and medicaid....... Elie should qualify for both if his

only income is SSI.......

Thanks, LEah. i knew what was covered, but this was never an issue for

Elie. HE has great coverage between Tricare and Medicaid. Elie has SS/SSI

.. Heard a rumor (on another list) that perhaps Medicaid will pick up the

cost of the premium for Medicare. Tomorrow I will get dh to call about

that!!
