Guest guest
Tori was always a terror trying to dress her. Pinching, hitting, attempting to bite (recently). I found that when she is on the toilet (not that she uses it) I can maneuver her a bit better. If he wears pants that have ruff material like jeans or pants that have zippers in them try sweatpants. Matt wears sweat right up to very warm weather then its on to shorts. All his pants are elastic waste.Hes 16 won't wear clothes that have zippers. also wears t- shirts and loose clothing. >
Guest guest
Have you tried a brushing program for his sensory needs?? I used this to defuse the problems getting clothes on. This normally is not a horrible thing when you live in So Florida. We questioned whether it was a sensory problem but as she wears long sleeved long legged pajamas every night we figured it is just a behavioral " don't mess with my routine " thing. A couple of weeks ago it was actually freezing down here (our 3 days of winter) and we went out to find a new used car for me. We fought like hell to get the long pants on (we actually lied and said " horses " cause she knows she has to wear pants to go riding). The shirt was a total war to get on her and we had to drag her out the door immediately. The jacket was an absolute no go. She was in the back seat of the car listening to her VCR-music videos and rocking away making the whole car move as usual. dh went over to a minivan about 6 feet away then motioned me to come over to check it out. I told her I'd be right back and went over to look at the car; I checked on (1 second! later) and I go " Jim look at her!! " She's rocking away in the back seat with no shirt on and her tiny little boobettes out there for all to see. Neither of us could stop laughing while we're yelling at her " It's NOT funny! " while struggling to get her shirt back on. (don't ask about a bra please). Anyway it was definitely a 2 man job and I feel for you! The poor guy kept looking warily over his shoulder back at jamie in her stroller probably afraid she's gonna put on another " girls gone wild " show right there. Guest guest
LOL Boy, oh boy. It's a darn good thing we have been blessed with a sense of humor. :-) How would we ever survive these Kodak moments without it? Tell me Sherry, did you ever end up getting a new car? LOL You sure deserve one after your ordeal! Guest guest
i kinda agree here i would be sure mic knows who is boss, i would never let my boys do that. never struggled to get dressed, keeping him dressed on the other hand, lol, it took a few good years to train him to dress himself, the socks were hard, and then i think it was just last summer he finally mastered buttoning his blue jeans. Are the clothes comfy soft or restricting?? when nathan was little he wore mostly only cute little sweat type outfits or short outfits, only elastic waist bands and everything is cotton, until he got older and then he started ripping his pants and socks etc all the time i couldnt keep him clothed, so we swithced to blue jeans, and eventually he got it, and seems to like his bj's even his bj shorts i usually make from his winter jeans. I know its hard but i also think mic needs some firm no's here, maybe just setting his clothes out and telling him to get dressed, and leave him be for a few minutes, and give him a great reward of something after he is dressed, i know at our house, nathan doesnt get his " hotdogsausages " (dont ask me why he combines words like this, lol) until he is showered and dressed, this is ALWAYS a big issue he is done quickly and at the table, but if he eats first it could be nightime/bedtime before he decides he wants to get dressed, lol, he knows how to work the system, lol shawna --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Guest guest
Mic cant dress himself. He helps sometimes he will put his arm thru a sleeve or let me put his socks on but his motor skills are no where near him dressing himself. He tries. He takes his diaper off sometimes and he pulls his socks off by the toes.He has this hat he can pull over his head sometimes or he just lays it on the top of his head very cute.Hes home this week and unless we go out he will run around in his diaper and T shirt. He likes to have a shirt on ever since his mik key button. His coat and pants are the problems. He likes his shoes. It depends on him and whether he wants to be touched, samething with a bath.I cant wash him thats Dads job he forces him holding him by his arm Im afraid he will slip and get hurt.Hes been so good today, gentle cuddly loving, he keeps trying to sit on my head.I had a dog that used to do the samething. Im feeling less alone and have more hope we will work thru this behavior.Or at least its almost shorts time.It most of all scares me for our future hes strong now. Thanks everyone, I never wished I was a bigger woman until now.I lift weights and it does help. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, re dressing Em is nearly 8 now. I use bribery. Luckily she loves going to school -so that helps. You need pants on to go to school. You need shoes on to go to school. If we are not going anywhere pj's stay on. I have 2 younger boys and they can be just as hard to dress!! I just turn off the morning cartoons until they are dressed. Also Em can not have her cd player until she is dressed. Though sometimes she thrashes about so much I just leave her, shut the door and come back in 5 mins when she is calmer. I find over the head shirts are better than struggleing with buttons. And never press studs as they can be undone in a flash. During the day, especially on the trampalene the clothes come off. So ... you need pants on to jump, you need pants on to have dinner etc. With pants she will lie on the bed, 1 leg in, while my knee is on the other leg, then 2 legs in. pull them up and bums up (she thinks that is so funny) pull pants right up. But it is always when we are running late that we have the most trouble!! Maybe you could put a blanket over the legs/feet when doing the top half to avoid the kicking. good luck annette nolan wrote: It wont be long before I cant dress Mic anymore if --------------------------------- Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.yahoo.com
