Guest guest
Tonight I was watching Extreme Home Makeover, my weekly cry, and fell asleep on me. I was able to snip the back a bit and get a little more over one ear. He woke up after about 4 snips - not all the way awake, but enough to fight me!!! I called it quits and carried him on up. It's Spring Break all this week, so we'll " groom " every night while he's asleep. He'll be a good looking kid come next Monday!!! LOL! Thanks Margaret - Jayne mfroof@... wrote: Hi, Everyone....Jayne...I use to have to cut Gareth's hair when he was sleeping. I would wait an hour or so after he was asleep, turn on the small, bedside light, and snip away. Some times, I could even roll him over from side to side if I had to. Other times, it would take a couple of nights. but it sure saved him from screaming and being terrified. Toe nails and finger nails were done the same way. After he was put on meds, though, all those 'quirks' went away.......and I don't miss them one bit!!! Now....he grows his hair long and gets it cut whenever he decides. That is fine with me, but his Dad calls him a 'long haired, hippy freak' and Gareth laughs. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Hi Jayne, " Shoe out the window " is such a cute chapter title. Glad you ended up playing it safe retrieving it, yeah mom to the rescue! At the Movement Program, this is the Dept. of Health & Kinesiology. You would love it here for here to learn how to ride his bike, etc. For its the areas needed and so they focus on the sports being applied like with all the Special Olympics activities and Challengers Baseball league and some of the clinicians even come out to volunteer which works out as this is part of their internship for a grade. The clinician using a minimum of two different assessment devices, depending on the client's age and motor needs, carefully assesses each child. A formal written evaluation of the assessment is provided in a conference with parents, which includes all test scores and a movement program recommendation. Most clients are experiencing movement difficulties in one or more fo the four basic categories of movement. * Perceptual skills (bosy and spatial awarenedd, identification of body parts) * Locomotor skills (walk, run, hop, jump, skip) * Object Control Skills (throwing, catching, kicking, striking) * Physical and motor fitness The clinic is designed to help children who are experiencing movement problems due to a lag in the growth and development process, or poor personal social skills, or the inability to process information. Good luck with the IEP meeting, awesome teacher. On the IEP, what I overheard from parents at the Movement Program. " will ride a bicycle with training wheels " , under social Goals. enjoyed riding the Trikes with those velcro on the pedals as needed at the APE program when he was younger. I gave up on him learning to ride a bike as he was growing up. He was getting hard to control, he WAS a runner/escape artist and one of my fears of him learning to ride the bile was taking off to who knows where. Irma,17,DS/ASD > > Thanks Irma. The growth thing is a mystery, but that's great that he's still growing! No doubt you take good care of his health Irma. sounds like he's very well proportioned, does he like to move around and exercise? I know you've mentioned the Movement Class, what exactly do they do? > > Is Uremic Frost the name of your Brother's health condition? I haven't heard of this. I'm sorry he is sick Irma. > > > I try to be regular about not getting on the computer til my " chores " are done but some days are harder than others - LOL! Today, I didn't turn it on til noon. > I need to get a bit more done though, before I pick up for Private OT today. > > We have our IEP tomorrow. I've been so pleased with his teacher, she has had me proof read everything and last night sent home a full draft. I've never had such wonderful school to home communication! She had sent home her Present Level of Performance page the other night and as I was reading it I could see she was getting away from the PLOP and more into next year and addressing needs. I was nervous of how she would take my critique. But she was amazing, told me she was just thrilled with my notes and that I'm so good, I should be a teacher!!!! ROTFL! > I feel pretty good going into the IEP tomorrow, I think it will go smoothly. > I just have to make sure OT doesn't try to cut back services and that PT addresses all the areas he's still struggling with. > > Have any of you been able to work a bike riding goal in to an IEP? Last year I was able to keep a goal with peddaling a tricycle in but it wasn't really addressed very much. We got him the bike for his b-day and he just doesn't get pedaling or steering. His PT called yesterday and said she took out the goal as it's not academic at all. I was bummed. Any idea on this???? > > How nice to get the " new " furniture from your neighbor. Sorry it's because her son had to be put in a group home, I hope that goes well. > Be careful and watch your back - rearranging all that furniture. You can hurt your back doing anything. I once had mine go out shaving my legs in the shower!!! I just felt it go as I was leaning over my leg - awful - hubby had just deployed for 7 months, 1 hour earlier!!! > > Take care, > Jayne
