Guest guest
Hi Daisy, As a teacher, you are fully aware that the needs of any student determines placement. Generally I believe that students fully included with their typical peers benefit. The program must have appropriately trained staff to meet and include all students needs with the necessary accommodations and modifications and integrated related services for any student to fully gain benefit. The program must not be a special program within a classroom and must include all of the students at all times. I am not a supporter of self contained classrooms that further isolates a student from their typical peers and community. Research has proven that all children benefit from an inclusive environment if done correctly. All students have a right to be educated in the least restrictive environment. I believe your students have parental support but may be looking for your acceptance, including high expectations, guidance and expertise. I teach a cross categorical kindergarten and often feel like some students need a more restrictive environment than mine but don't get parent support. I want the very best for each child but get the feeling many parents would rather receive instruction in the mainstream or the cc class even though it may not be appropriate.
