The doctor wasn't concerned about the ibuprophen; Grey can take that all day as

far as he's concerned. It's the Tylenol #3 he wants Greyson off of.

I'm not worried about the addiction. He hasn't been on it long enough, and he

won't be. Addiction wasn't the issue either.

He just didn't think Greyson needed it. (See, I'm not explaining myself very

well. It helps to re-word it.)

I'm not afraid to use prescription pain medication ---- when I feel it's needed

and I think I'm a pretty good judge of my son's pain level/need. I don't

overdose or misuse medication. Non-prescription meds included. I honestly hate

having to use ANYTHING but I will when I feel like I have to. I'd rather do that

than have him hurt. I'm from the old school on that issue. And no, I agree, it

doesn't take away the pain completely but it does make him comfortable. (My only

goal anyway.) And the ibuprophen helps with the inflammation; the reason why we

keep that one going round the clock.

In this day and age of abuse/lawsuits/regulations; I understand the need for

caution --- but I don't believe this requires my son to hurt IF he doesn't have

to because his doctor doesn't like prescribing narcotics. What I dislike more is

that my son needs them!! But when Greyson's crying in the morning because he

'hurts', then I'm giving him something for that pain. And, like I said, he's got

a high pain tolerance and then I wonder if his autism has anything to do with or

how it affects his pain perception. I don't know there. I just wish he could

TELL me --- be more subjective about his pain. I don't want to overkill the pain

either --- but at this point I don't think I have. I think I'm doing good with

reading his needs.

PS However, if I'm still medicating him this much 9 weeks from now, well then we

might have a problem!

Thanks!

Dianne

<<becoming addictive to the tylenol #3.

Actually the Ibuprofen did better for pain than the

tylenol #3 did for me. >>

Hi, Everyone....Dianne....yes, the addiction to Tylenol #3, which has

codeine may be a concern, but the other concern could be the Ibuprofen. It

acts

like a blood thinner....like aspirin. If surgery is next week, he may be

concerned about it causing excess bleeding. Ask your Dr. for some

clarification.
