Guest guest
We have had this problem for years!!! We use manipulaation, bribery, PREMACK, and go when the wood trail, playground street is most likely to be empty. Elie will sit outside now. We put a parkbench in the front yard, made a " magic path " with pebbles and put some plants around to make a semiprivate area. He will sit out there watching the passersby for quite awhile. HE prefers dusk. But he will not walk on the pebbles and when I put fragrant plants out there, he moved them. Now in the spring I put a citronella on a shepard's crook and some green things around the chair. It just kills me that she doesn't enjoy any of the typical kids' stuff Liz, I know you don't want to hear this, but we have the opposite problem, and it's a nightmare. Maddie wants to be outside 24/7!!!!! It's one of her obsessions......and once outside, it's not like she'll sit nicely on a bench or our porch furniture....NO....she has to RUN RUN RUN....especially in the street (you know that contrast between asphalt and pavement is just SO luring). ALL DAY LONG, sunshine, rain or snow, she is handing me my purse, my coat, my keys, my walkman, her shoes, her coat, ANYTHING to get me to take her outdoors. It's exhausting. Funny, but since we have been potty training, she hasn't been as bad.....she just doesn't have the time to bug us....LOL Maddie's off today and it's beautiful here in Philly, so I think we'll ease up a bit on the intensity of our training and go for a few walks. Everybody needs a break!!!! Matter of fact, my 13 year old is going to DC on Sunday to start her People to People Ambassador program on Monday.......Duff is taking her. My SIL is bugging me to go with them, so we can catch up with our son n, a sophomore at Catholic. We'd go out to dinner with him and some of his friends, then stay at a hotel........Should I take her up on it?!?!? She SAYS she'll do the potty training..........I miss my boy. HUGS.....we ALL have stuff to deal with...whether it's the same or not!!!! Donna P.S. She's still sleeping....it's amazing how much she looks like an angel while asleep...the most beautiful face!!!! Guest guest
Hi Liz, I bet this will change, I remember did not like the outside as much, hard to remember cause now he loves it! He doesnt like the grass with bare feet but he likes his patio, with his porch swing that he can swing himself w/his feet. Wonder if Tori would like this? I know how you feel though cause we keep trying balls, new toys, everything (my husband gets mad at me!) but it makes me sad too that he just wants his jump roaps mostly! How about putting Tori's bouncey thing out there? or would it rip up? and music? this is what likes outside, or maybe she needs sunglasses? Another thing we just got (I should send it to Tori cause isnt crazy about it YET) is a blow up type punch bag, ya know the kind you put water in the bottom before blowing up to make it bounce back.It does have super man on it, I got it at Big Lots for 5 dollars. I thought it would help with some of his " sensory seeking " needs!! Hey, put her grass rug out side!!! Or a mini tramp since she is a jumper, would that do it? just doing some brain storming with you Liz, take care, Dawn (sounds like you already have some fun things out there!) > > Hi, everyone.. Guest guest
Donna: I guess I should consider ourselves lucky that Tori won't run off...because she hates being out. I just guess I still want her to be " normal " . I remember be outside all the time with my oldest. Taking walks, going to the park for hours, playing ball, etc.. =( I would take your SIL up on her offer. We all need a break. My DH & I are going to Las Vegas in July for ours!! It's been 8 years. You are lucky she sleeps in a bit. Tori has me up between 6 & 6:30 every day! Liz Re: Ok, I need to talk.. > > In a message dated 3/30/2006 8:58:35 P.M. Guest guest
Gee Liz. Mic will not go outside in the winter if theres snow hes afraid of it.He will play in it if I bring in a dish full in the house and he eats it like a typical kid but to take him out no way.In the summer he loves it outside and he goes down his slide and swings, for 2 years all he would do was go behind the shed and stand in there with the plywood.I think school must have helped there for him.Thats got to be hard on you and frustrating my neighbor is a normal 36 year old mother and I never see her outside she told me once she hates it.Me I am outside in the sun as much as possible I cant understand her either. Guest guest
One of Josiah's little buddies hated being outdoors too...when the weather was warm. The teachers said he loved recess when the weather was cool, but if the sun was out and it was warm, he'd just plop down on the playground and sit and want to go back inside. Could that be the issue with Tori as well? Josiah's friend had a mom who just took him out in the early parts of the day or later in the cool of the evening. He really enjoyed it then.
