Guest guest
Hello LaVida..what a pretty name! We usually refer to our children as children who have " Down syndrome " and the apostrophe is a bit dated.(It was used for awhile) I have a daughter who was recently diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. She has just turned 14, and I understand that children with Down syndome are often much older when diagnosed. It is certainly true in her case. Since I have 4 other adopted children who also have Down syndrome, I knew that her odd behaviors were not due to that, but something else. That something was autism! We are trying to cope as best we can ,and this particular group is VERY helpful Brigid Introduction My name is LaVida and I am currently a marriage and family therapy graduate student. As part of a class, I have decided to become a member of a support group. I am very interested in talking with the parents and other professionals who have a wide knowledge base about down's syndrome and autism so I can learn more about families with children who have autism and down's syndrome. -------------------------------------------------- Checkout our homepage for information, bookmarks, and photos of our kids. Guest guest
Brigid, I apologize for it taking so long for me to reply, but I wanted to thank you for educating me on " Down syndrome " and how I should write it. I wanted to know what characteristics you consider essential for a family to cope with their child having Down syndrome and/or autism. I do realize it varies from family to family, but I am eager to learn someone's personal perspective on this. What did you find most helpful for you and your family? Once again, if I have said something incorrectly please feel free to let me know. Thank you, LaVida > > Hello LaVida..what a pretty name! > We usually refer to our children as children who have " Down syndrome " and the apostrophe is a bit dated.(It was used for awhile) > I have a daughter who was recently diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. A belated thank you for your own website which got me through the first few months after Sophie was born. I'm so glad to see that the site is still going strong, but what happened to the beautiful music? Lisette
