Good idea Margaret. One thing about BOCES is that you never see any other

parents. There's really no way to get parents in a district together to

discuss problems. I think that is going to be my summer project. Starting a

group for BOCES parents to meet and work together. Think it should start with

an

ad in the paper?

Gail :-)

Hi, Everyone......Gail....Happy Birthday to my Elmira friend!!! Why don't

you and all the others from NY write up an e-mail about your

problems/issues

with BOCES and your school districts, all of you sign it, and send it off

to

Hillary. She just may get something done....isn't this an election year?

Mr

Bush, with his No Child Left Behind, should have provided $$$ for districts

to provide an education (not babysitting) for our kids. How many of you

are

there in NY.....5 or 6? Just an idea. Take care, Everyone.

Margaret

Well acutally,my CSE is very good to me.I have been the parent member for umteen

years hough. My children are 14, 16, and 18. They have each had very individual

programs according to their needs. BUT(and three is always a but) Thre are very

few appropriate BOCES programs available. If you don't fit in the BOCES

box..don't bother to come to them. Our local BOCES has very little to offer in

the way of autism education, and no special clases that I know of for students

with autism. I also feel that there is very little offered to our special ed

students from BOCES. Food service is " big " ...as Seinfeld says, " not that there

is anything wrong with that! " but our kids need more choice. Thre is a Visions

program for gifted(or at least " upper level " students where the students shadow

and participate in activities at our local hospitals..like, nnursing, ot,

speech, well thre are other jobs that need to be done in hospitals..whhy not

have a like program for student's with disabilities..or allow them in the

regular Visions program..with supports. It is the low expectations problem

again. Well those are some of my concerns.

Brigid,

We have an autism program, which might have been good 20 years ago. Sure

needs some updating though. I took Seth out of it after first grade. He's in

a multiply disabled 6-1-1 class now.
