Guest guest
thanks she is on medication for the next 2 weeks and then goes back to see how she is doing. Her new glasses should be ready in about 5-7 days but they said we could pick them up at our convience so we will try to time it for when she goes back to the ped since they are only about 5 mins away from each other and it saves another hour long trip. The doctor said Trisha's skin is very dry all over and recommended using a cream or lotion and something in her bath. Any suggestions? She has very sensitive skin. Guest guest
Carol, how great Trisha did so well with the exams today. Hope she is feeling better soon. Trisha had tubes when she was 18 months old and then again at 2 1/2 and then at 3 and then again at 4. At 5 she had her tonsils removed and then at 6 1/2 she had tonsils removed again (they grew back) and her adenoids removed. Since she had the adenoids and tonsils removed she has been doing pretty good that is until today, I took her to the eye doctor and also to her ped and she has fluid in the ears and sinus and chest congestion. But that isn't a bad record considering she has had as many as 24 (they charted them) ear infections a year which we think may be the cause of her hearing loss. We first learned of her hearing loss around 6 after her surgery, she got hearing aids but would not keep them in and kept throwing them out the window, losing them on the playground and then flushing them down the toilet. So we were worried how she would do this time with the aids. She will keep them on at school or if we are doing work but " her " time they come off which the audiologist says is fine, that as she gets more comfortable with them she will wear them longer. She even asked for them once recently. She is getting new glasses as her RX has worsened a bit. They also fitted her glasses with a special nose piece that helps them not to slide so bad which might help her keep them on longer as well. She did so good at the Dr's office today. They were amazed at the difference. She had so many caution notes from last visit and this time she was a perfect little lady cooperating with them even to the eye drops even though she kept squeezing her eyes shut she still let them get the drops in which is much better than last time it took 3 of us. She even took eye tests they couldn't administer last time. She got to do the eye chart, colored glasses and depth perception test. She even for the very first time let them put her head in that harness to look in her eyes. I was so proud of her. And in the ped's office it was the same she let them look in her ears and down her throat it was awesome for the very first time to go and not have to fight her to let them look at her. I give part of the credit of course to Trisha, but the other part I think is because of all the hard work they are doing the autism school. They have been going back to the very basics and working with her on those and helping with her sensory needs and communication needs. In other words, they are doing just what I have been begging the public school to do for years and years. Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha! I can only imagine how wonderful it must have been to have her cooperate so nicely at both appts. So glad things went well for you today. Sorry she's sick though, hope she feels better soon. Guest guest
I just started using Gold Bond's medicated lotion for both Tori and myself. It seems to work really well. Eastern Standard Time, jacksonsmom99@... writes: Well,I guess this proves that we're always learning and it's never too late to start I just got back from our monthly parent/teacher meeting and I feel very good with the results. We discussed ESY and we all agree that it would be beneficial for Trisha so our next step is to present it to the FAPT team when we meet next month to get the ball rolling on that. I also asked about possible increase in her ST and OT and they agreed that would be good. They also agreed that more intense socialization with her peers is needed and that is being worked on as we speak. We also are going to have OT, ST, PT consultations set up through her MR case manager to see about getting more therapies for her at home as well as at school. We are also checking into recreation therapy as well. We are setting up an IEP meeting to put all of this into the IEP. I still have not gotten used to how well this school cooperates with us, it's just blows my mind every time we meet. I just can't say it enough, this move to the autism school has been the best thing we could have done for Trisha educationally wise. The school is going to see what they can do about the bus aide problem and training the aid in autism. They are so supportive and so full of praise for Trisha, so different than what we are used to and oh so much better. I have confidence in this school which is not something I have felt with the public schools. I know it is different for each child but in our case the autism, ABA approach is working for Trisha.
