Guest guest
Link established http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09074/955436-110.stm I was very interested in the March 8 Forum article " What Vaccine Dilemma? " by Todd Wolynn. I would like to remind Dr. Wolynn of the Hannah Poling case, in which the U.S. government conceded that vaccines were a causal factor in the Georgia girl's " autistic-like symptoms. " Also, in late February, news was released that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services doled out more than $1 million to the family of Banks. A court stated that 's reaction to a vaccination " was severe enough to cause lasting, residual damage, and retarded his developmental progress, which fits under the generalized heading of Pervasive Developmental Delay. Additionally, this chain of causation ... was a proximate sequence of cause and effect leading inexorably from vaccination to Pervasive Developmental Delay. " Yet we have another arrogant, know-it-all physician who seems to think that parents who believe there is a connection between autism and childhood vaccinations are uneducated loons. The Department of Health and Human Services has conceded a link in 1,322 cases over the past five years. Let's not forget that Dr. Wolynn has ties to pharmaceutical companies as a clinical vaccine researcher. These parents are not " anti-vaccine " as these physicians would have the public believe. We repeatedly state that a less aggressive vaccine schedule should be further investigated. As for putting other children at risk? If you are so confident in your vaccines, Dr. Wolynn, then you need not worry about my unvaccinated child. CINDY WAELTERMANN McCandless The writer is the director of the Autism Center of Pittsburgh.
